On how middle school students appreciate modern poetry.

Abstract: With the continuous advancement of the new curriculum reform, middle school textbooks have been revised, added and deleted again and again. Modern poetry and ancient poetry selected in the textbook account for almost half of the country. This shows that the new curriculum reform pays more and more attention to the cultivation of junior high school students' appreciation ability.

From primary school to middle school, every student can read and recite many ancient poems, but not many students can really recite a few modern poems. Why? First, people don't pay enough attention to modern poetry; Secondly, they think that the connotation of modern poetry is not as long and profound as that of ancient poetry; Third, they generally don't take modern poetry in exams.

In fact, modern poetry also has profound connotation and readability, and some even have a long aftertaste, which lasts for three days.

How to guide students to appreciate modern poetry? How to make them feel the deep emotion contained in poetry and the beautiful picture constructed by imagination when they appreciate modern poetry?

Let's take a few modern poems from the textbook to make a superficial discussion.

One is Ai Qing's If I were a Bird.

If I were a bird/I should also sing with a hoarse throat/This land hit by the storm/This sad and angry river will always surge with us/This angry wind blows endlessly/There is an incomparably gentle dawn from the forest ...-Later I died/Even my feathers rotted in the land/Why are there always tears in my eyes/Because I love this land deeply. ...

This poem was written in 1938.

Knowing the author's writing background can help us understand the connotation of poetry more deeply.

The poem begins with "If I were a bird", we can't help asking: Why should a poet be a bird? What is it going to sing?

Knowing the background, we know that a seemingly insignificant bird has to fight hard and make an unyielding voice by "singing with its hoarse throat" in the land ravaged by war and disaster. What we see is a tortured bird. It has been singing all its life. Who is this bird? It's the author. This is Qian Qian's compatriot, who fought against the invaders with his weak body.

In the first section, four kinds of birdsong images are described: land, river, wind and dawn. Their core is "land", and Ai Qing is the singer of the land. For this land where he was born and raised in Sri Lanka, for this disaster-stricken land, for this land where the war of resistance is in full swing, the poet can no longer hold back his passionate feelings. He wants to show his love for this land. ...

"This land that has been hit by the storm/the river that always surges with our grief and indignation/the angry wind that blows endlessly/and the incomparably gentle dawn from the forest", this trampled land symbolizes the long-simmering grief and indignation in people's hearts and their anger at the atrocities of the invaders. The incomparably gentle dawn from the forest indicates that the dawn of independence and freedom for which people struggle and devote themselves will surely come to this land. "Then I died/even my feathers rotted in the land." When the bird was alive, it tried to sing for the land. After death, it throws its whole body into the embrace of the land, and even its feathers are integrated with the land.

Finally, the poet expressed the most sincere love of all patriotic intellectuals for the motherland in that miserable era with affectionate confession. This kind of love will never die, not only from the poet's heart, but also from the patriotic feelings of the whole nation.

"Then I died/even my feathers rotted in the ground." In this sentence, the poet wrote his unswerving determination and also showed the flesh-and-blood relationship between the poet and the land. When I die, my flesh, bones and blood will rot in the land, even my feathers will rot in the land, and everything I have will be dedicated to the motherland without reservation!

At this point, the poet's love for the land has been fully expressed. The phrase "even the feathers rot in the ground" is enough to shake people's hearts. However, the poet did not stop there, but struck a chord with the reader again with the last two sentences:

"Why do I often have tears in my eyes? Because I love this land deeply ... "

These two sentences are simple and clear, but they have earth-shattering power. Because these "tears" contain the author's deep love!

It can be said that in the process of appreciating this poem, students have also undergone a baptism of patriotism education.

Rereading Taiwan Province poet Yu Guangzhong's Homesickness.

When I was a child/homesickness was a small stamp/I was here/my mother grew up there/homesickness was a narrow ticket/I was here/my bride was there/homesickness was a short grave/I was outside/my mother was inside, but now/homesickness is a shallow strait/I am here/the mainland is there.

This poem is divided into four sections with the same format. Its language is almost universal. Literally, the poet has no "grandiloquence" to express his homesickness. Homesickness is an abstract emotion, but the poet transforms it into a tangible object with concrete images. The author only uses four images distorted by homesickness, such as "stamp", "boat ticket", "grave" and "strait", to connect the whole poem. However, through these images, readers see the self-image of a poet who is haggard because of homesickness. He stood on the other side of the strait and looked at the mainland for a long time. This set of shots is like a close-up of a heartbreaker at the end of the world. The author's vague and faint narrative condensed how much bitterness and separated how many joys and sorrows! Everyone is good at connecting seemingly ordinary things in series with a gold thread to form a glittering pearl necklace. Mr. Yu Guangzhong is one of the most outstanding people in this field, and this poem is extremely imaginative. From "childhood" to "growth", then to "later" and "present", the author has spanned several decades, surpassing the author's life: he is wandering all over the world. The whole poem omits the author's strong homesickness and decades of sadness, and summarizes his life with ordinary language and condensed images. This is a concentrated picture of homesickness, but this picture shows the lovesickness of "there are plenty of fragrant grass in the sea". The thoughts and feelings of readers and authors have produced a strong * * * sound in the imaginary kingdom.

From this point of view, the connotation of modern poetry is rich and extensive. As long as middle school students keep learning and increase their knowledge, they will certainly gain the ability to improve and appreciate beauty in the appreciation of modern poetry.
