"This Thought Annoys Me"

Author: [Hungary] Petofi

Do I have to die in bed?

This idea bothers me.

Like a flower, slowly withering,

because there are insects chewing in my heart;

Like a candle, after burning for a long time,

The light in the house gradually lost.

Don’t let me die like that,

God, don’t give me that fate!

I would rather be a tree,

pierced and broken by the lightning wind;

I would rather be a rock,

Falling down the mountain stream amidst the roar...

If all enslaved peoples,

rise up to resist and break their shackles,

with red faces, A red flag,

with words like this written on it:

“Freedom for the whole world!”

These words roared throughout the land, Howl.

The day of judgment for the tyrant is coming,

At that time, if I must die,

let me die on the battlefield,

Blood gushes from the chest,

The joyful songs are still ringing in the ears,

The screams of soldiers on the battlefield,

The noise of swords, the bugles The blowing of the gun, the roar of the cannon, and the groups of war horses,

galloping on the battlefield, conveying the news of victory,

but I was on the horse's hooves Life stopped.

On the day of the funeral,

my bones were gathered together,

elegy was sung, and the battle flag was draped over the coffin.

Freedom all over the world,

those heroes who sacrificed their lives for you,

all rest in the same grave.
