"There is a Beautiful Place" was written in 1950s and 1960s by Yang Fei (now dead), a military composer, out of his love for Dai nationality in Dehong, which was also the source of his inspiration. When he was young, Yang Fei was sent to Dehong by the army to work and experience life. After coming to Dehong, he was disappointed and thought it was backward and unattractive. But after living in Dehong for a while, he fell in love with this land deeply. One day, he came to Meng Xiu in Ruili and looked at the two sides of the mountain from a distance. On one side is the dam in Gong Mi's hometown, and on the other side is the beautiful Ruili village. Really beautiful! With emotion, I wrote this song "There is a beautiful place".
The song "There is a Beautiful Place" is written in a cover style, and the lyrics describe Ruili. Because the scenery of Ruili is similar to other places in Dehong Dai Township, Dehong is a beautiful place, and because the customs of Dehong Dai Township and Xishuangbanna Dai Township are similar, Dai Township is a beautiful place. Therefore, the song "There is a Beautiful Place" depicts the hometown of the Dai people.
At the beginning of 2002, the Ruili Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government decided to erect a monument of "There is a beautiful place" next to the site where Yang Fei wrote this song-Mengxiu Township, Ruili City, the former site of the 1st Battalion and 2nd Company of a frontier defense regiment in Yunnan Military Region, in order to express the high respect and heartfelt thanks of the people of Ruili City to Yang Fei, and to show that this famous song will be sung by future generations forever.
For more than half a century, this song has been selected as one of the national 100 outstanding patriotic songs since the May 4th Movement, and has also been designated as a city song by Ruili. Yang Fei, a songwriter, has also forged an indissoluble bond with Ruili City.
