Life of the character

< p>Early life

Su You, whose original name was Nguy_n Kim Thành, was born on October 4, 1920 (August 23, Gengshen, fifth year of Kai Dinh) in Hoi An, Guangnan Province, Vietnam, to a poor man. Born into a Confucian family, he moved with his father to his hometown of Phu Lai Village, Quang Tho Township, Quang Tien District, Thua Thien Hue Province when he was 9 years old. Under the influence of the family atmosphere, he received Chinese education since he was a child and loved poetry. According to his recollection: "I found some poems in my poems that imitated or adapted from Tang poems. These are easy-to-understand ballads and folk songs. It has a subtle influence on me, which makes it natural for me to write sixty-eight-verse poems in the future. Therefore, Chinese poetry, ballads and folk songs are two factors that influence my poetry creation. ”

Revolutionary work

At the age of 13, Nguyen Kim Thanh entered Hue to study Chinese studies. Here, he read many Marxist-Leninist books and came into contact with early Vietnamese communists such as Le Duan and Phan Then Liu, and gradually established his communist beliefs. In 1936, he joined the Indochina Democratic Youth League and in 1938 joined the Indochina Communist Party. In the same year, when he went to Laos to visit one of his brothers, he met an old scholar from Quang Binh Province. The old scholar gave him the pen name "Su You", which refers to the Chinese Song Dynasty Taizu Zhao Kuangyin's yellow robe. After his mother Du Shi (Empress Dowager Zhao Xian) heard the news, she said : "My son has always had great ambitions, and now it is true!" Ruan Jincheng changed it to the homonym "Suyou" and became his own name.

After Su You joined the party, he worked in the Hue Municipal Party Committee. In April 1939, he was arrested by French colonial authorities. In March 1942, he successfully escaped from prison and went to Thanh Hoa to participate in revolutionary work. From 1943 to 1945, So Youu served as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Thanh Hoa Province. After the August Revolution in 1945, he served as chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Uprising Committee and led the Hue Uprising, forcing Emperor Bao Dai to abdicate.

Leading literature and art

In 1946, Su You was transferred to the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party to be responsible for cultural work and youth work. In 1951, So Huu was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the Second National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In 1954, So Huu was appointed deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Vietnam. In 1955, So Huu became a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Workers' Party. During this period, Su You led the literary and artistic propaganda work of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, just like Zhou Yang's position in New China.

He was deeply influenced by the theories put forward by the Communist Party of China that "literature and art are subordinate to politics" and "literature and art serve politics". In 1951, he published "Building People's Literature and Art" (X_yd_ngv_nngh__úng__n/
