amazing grace

"amazing grace" is a poem that everyone loves to sing inside and outside the church. John. Newton, the author of this poem, was born in London, England. His mother is a devout Christian. She often prays that her son will become a priest. At the age of seven, his mother died of illness. At the age of eleven, he worked as a sailor with his father in slave ship and often went to Africa to sell black slaves. Soon, he got into dissolute living habits, eating, drinking, gambling and cheating. On the way back to England from Africa again, the ship is about to sink in a strong storm. When John was dying, he prayed to God, "Please help me reach the port safely. I will always be your slave." After a narrow escape, he repented and turned to the Lord. Later, he was appointed as a priest by the Anglican Church, and he tried his best to oppose slavery all his life.

John wrote an epitaph for himself before he died: "Pastor John Newton, once a criminal, evil and unbelieving man, was a slave in Africa, but he was pardoned and saved by the generous mercy of the savior Jesus Christ and sent by the Lord to preach the gospel."

The song "amazing grace" is a portrayal of his rebirth. He experienced the resurrection from the sin of death and led many people to believe in Jesus. Can you also lead many people to believe in Jesus? As long as we accept "amazing grace" and get rid of the rule of death, we can live a missionary life and testify for Christ.
