The Black Sutra of the Dead is an ancient and grand collection of poems, with a total of 27 articles, including incantations, hymns, lengthy explanations, various etiquette mantras, names of gods and so on. They are usually carved or written on the walls of pyramids or tombs, while others are printed on coffins or carved on exquisite sarcophagus. Because the original text is hieroglyphics, it has long been lost. It was not until the beginning of19th century that the inscriptions comparing hieroglyphics with Coptic (a kind of writing dominated by Greek) were deciphered.
