Why was Uzza killed?
On the surface, perhaps we think that Uzza is innocent of killing people, because he just "fouled" on impulse to help the ark that should not have been touched; Moreover, if further investigated, David must be responsible for the accident, because he should not agree to pull the ark with an ox cart, causing the ox to trip and get into trouble; If we pursue it further, the priests around David will feel guilty, because they know that the ark can't be pulled by an ox cart, but they knowingly let David run amok without saying a word of dissuasion. So, taking the killing of Uzza as an example, isn't it unfair to God not to hold David and the priest accountable? It can be seen that Uzza's murder case is not as simple as we thought. Therefore, we must study the Bible comprehensively and see what spiritual revelation it will bring us. First, let's go back to the beginning of the whole event. Samuel 1 chapter 4 tells us that the Israelites were going to fight the Philistines at that time, and they were afraid of losing, so they carried the ark that had been put in Shiloh to the front to "be brave". As a result, not only was it defeated, but even the Ark of the Covenant was "occupied" on enemy territory. Here, we can see that the Israelites acted according to the rules from beginning to end-wherever they went, the ark was carried by people. However, in the end, the Israelis were defeated. The reason is that the two sons of Eli, a confused old priest, have already lost the presence of God. And led by these two wicked people who don't know the Lord, how can Israel not lose the battle? It can be seen that God values the essence, not the external pattern. This is the first fact that we discovered. We can still carry the ark of God in a pious way and lose the battle. Then, in chapters 5 and 6 of 1 Samuel, we see that the self-righteous Philistines ate all the sufferings of the "captive" ark. Finally, a farce was staged to send the ark back to the ark with an ox cart. Here we can see that it is illegal for the Philistines to pull the ark with cows, but their attitude of having to surrender before God is the fundamental reason for God to let them go and get them out of trouble. Ignorance is not desirable, and ignorance is willing to repent, and it is not a dead end; Ignorance combined with stubborn contempt for God will lead to a dead end. From God's "repentance and leniency" towards the ignorant Philistines, we can see once again that the God who observes people's hearts always pays attention to what people think, not what they do externally. In the sixth chapter of 1 Samuel, we also saw that when the ark was sent back to Israel, "the Lord killed seventy people in Beth-shemesh because they were good at watching his ark, and there were fifty thousand people there at that time. Seventy plus fifty thousand. The people wept, because the Lord struck them hard. (1 Sam. 6: 19) As a result, the ark was finally transferred to the people of Kiribati and kept safely for twenty years. From the scripture, it is not easy for us to understand why the people of Beth-shemesh were killed by the Lord after seeing the ark. The ark was left in Gilead and Linda for twenty years, but the people there were safe and sound. However, if we understand the meaning of these two place names, it is not difficult to find the answer. According to the Bible dictionary, the name "Bethshemai" means "the house of the sun"; The name "Kiribati Yelin" means "Forest City". Obviously, the "house of the sun" and the "city of the forest" are just a bright contrast. From this comparison, we should realize that the people living in the "Sun House" think that they are living in the light with God, so that they have lost their fear of God. Seeing the ark well is just a manifestation of their self-righteous mentality. As a result, God killed "70 people plus 50,000 people" at once, almost all of them were in the "Sun House". On the contrary, the people of Kiribati who live in the "forest city" are lacking in confidence. They think they are in the dark and can't see God. Nor did they choose personal misfortune as their goal, and they immediately took over the ark of the Covenant of the Lord without hesitation. The heavenly father is naturally willing to be with them in the dark and help such people fulfill his will. It can be seen that judging a person's spirituality is not by how much "light" he sees, but by how deeply he knows himself. The more spiritual a person is, the more he knows his dark, filthy and miserable situation. The Lord Jesus told the Pharisees: If you are blind, you have no sin; But now you say' we can see', so your sin is still there. "(about 9: 4 1). Isn't this the difference between a "solar house" and a "forest city"? The Bible also tells us: "The residents of Kiriath-jearim came down, took up the ark of the Lord, and put it in Abinadab's house on the mountain, and set Eleazar his son to guard the ark of the Lord." (1 Sam 7: 1) In this section of the Bible, the word "distribution" means "sanctification" in the original dictionary; Eleazar means "God is help". In other words, we don't know how many sons Abinadab had, only that Eleazar, who was assigned to keep the ark, was not only consecrated by God himself, but also helped him put the ark in a sacred position. So, we can keep 20 years without an accident. However, the so-called spiritual people, things and things will change. So is the Abinada family. When we came to the sixth chapter of 2 Sam, when David wanted to take back the ark from Abinadab's house, we saw that the Bible renamed Gilead-Jearimbara as Judah, which means "the master of Judah". The name "Judas" means "praise" Doesn't "Lord of Judah" mean to take praise for yourself? Obviously, the Bible implies that after twenty years of "spiritual" experience, the people of Kiribati and Yelin have become masters who praise themselves. The Bible mentions Abinada's home on a "mountain" twice in a row. Isn't it also suggesting that the Abinada family has become an idol in the eyes of the golden rooster? It can be predicted that it is only a matter of time before the Abinada family has an accident. Sure enough, Uzza was killed by God in the process of transporting the ark back to Jerusalem. The Bible records the scene of Uzza being killed: "When he arrived at the threshing floor of Nagong, Uzza reached out and held the ark of God, because the cow lost its front hoof. "The Lord God was angry with Uzza, and because of this mistake, he killed him, and he died beside the ark of God. (2 Sam 6: 6-7) The original dictionary tells us that the "mistake" in this passage appeared only once in the Old Testament, and its etymology came from "ease and slackness". That is to say, in fact, Uzza's mistake lies not in reaching out to help the ark of God, but in his arrogant and frivolous attitude of not taking the escort of the ark seriously. And the seeds of this pride germinated as early as on the "hill" of Barak Judah, and the threshing floor of that root only harvested its evil consequences. Uzza's murder happened suddenly, but it was not accidental. The original dictionary pointed out that "that root" means "prepared" In other words, it seems to be an accident that the cow pulling the ark came to Nagan's threshing floor and lost its front hoof. But this is not the case. This is a move that God has already prepared. If Uzza's death comes, doesn't God even have the ability to keep cows from losing their hooves? After the accident, David was afraid to take the ark to Jerusalem because he was afraid of God. So the ark was brought to the house of Obededom the Gittite. It was not until three months later that David heard that the Obededom family was not only safe, but also blessed by the Lord that he dared to bring the ark back to Jerusalem. Here, we can't help asking, who is Obededom the Gittite who is acceptable to God? The original dictionary tells us that "Gath" means "wine cellar"; "Obed-Edom" means "servant of Edom". As the name implies, a wine cellar is where grapes are pressed into wine. There is a poem that many believers are familiar with: "If you don't throw grapes into wine, it won't become wine", which well expresses the meaning of "wine" in the Bible. Also, "Edom" is another name for Esau, who sold his birthright with a bowl of red bean soup. If Esau, the Edomite, is synonymous with physical objects, then the mental status of "servant of Edom" is obviously lower. But a person who belongs to God will often live in the flesh if he really realizes that his actual identity is only a "servant of Edom". But willing to be put in the "wine cellar" by God and experience the change of life, then he (she) is the blessed person who brings the ark of God into his home. Think about it. At first, the people of Bethshemaya, the house of the sun, were killed, and the people of Kiribati, the city of the forest, humbly carried the ark home and were blessed. Uzza, from Mount Barak in Judah, was killed, but Obededom, an unknown lowly Gath, took the ark home and was blessed. "Servant of Edom" silently took over the position of "Lord of Judah". The repetition of history only tells us a law from heaven: "God blocks the proud and gives grace to the humble." (James 4: 6) All people and things related to the whole Uzza incident are inseparable from this theme. If we think deeply about David's ideological changes before and after the Uza incident, we can also see this clearly. For the first time, David led 30,000 people, beating gongs and drums to meet them, and took the ark away in a mighty way. In fact, he wanted to show that God was with him through the ark of the Covenant, which made his position as a king more unquestionable and authoritative. However, this desire to make the ark "stick gold on the face" is no different from that when the Israelites attacked the Philistines, that is, they want to rely on the ark to "courage". As a result, the Israelites were defeated, and David's calculation fell through. Thus, the presence of God will not be associated with any filthy motives. However, when David went to Obed to carry the ark for the second time, the Bible showed us that his attitude changed completely: "The man who carried the ark of the Lord took six steps, and David offered bulls and fat sheep as sacrifices. David wore a linen ephod and danced before the Lord (1 Sam. 6: 13- 14). That is to say, David completely gave up the dignity of a king, just like a naive child, expressing his reverence and humility to God without affectation. So far, his wife, michal, thinks that David is disgraced and humiliated in front of everyone. But David replied, "I will be more humble and look down on myself." (1 Sam 6: 22) As a result, Michal, who laughed at David, was barren all her life. If Michal could be as humble and repentant as David, maybe she would have given birth to a "prince", and it might not be Solomon who sat on the throne in the temple later. In any case, the Uza incident did bring us a lot of introspection and thinking, and let us have a deeper understanding of the law of God's life. Because theory is often not connected with practice, I always like to lie on the tree of good and evil to discuss right and wrong when I meet something. "One shot to the head", just like Uzza's death. Many people are often puzzled, unfair and dissatisfied with the occurrence of such things. However, who would have thought that when the local people felt that Uzza's death was not worth it, Uzza might thank and praise the Lord loudly in heaven. Because it was God who killed him, although the body suddenly "disappeared", the soul did not fall into hell and fell into the hands of Satan. Moreover, spiritual things cannot be "copied" according to external patterns. It is no problem for the Philistines to pull the ark with ox carts. David and even the team of priests around him may think that such a "pioneering work" is a new revelation from God and can be imitated, but then something happened. David danced twice to welcome the ark. Jump out of the first dance; The second time, I jumped out of God's blessing. This is enough to show that anyone who is out of humble position or wants to benefit and improve himself through God likes to explore God's "Ark" from the outside. And all those who come into contact with God's presence from the outside can't touch the edge or the bottom. May God broaden our horizons and let us see more and further things through the Uza incident.
