Original poem:

Lying in a lonely village, I don't feel sorry for myself, but I still think about the country. garrison platform.

I lie down at night listening to the wind and rain, and the iron horse glacier falls into my dream.

Translation:

I was lying alone in a remote mountain village, and I could hear the wind and rain outside the small window. In their old age, martyrs will not lament their old age, but still want to throw themselves into the enemy's territory and kill the enemy to defend the country. It was late at night, and the sound of wind and rain was like thousands of troops and horses roaring by; in my sleep, I rode an armored war horse, majestic and heroic, galloping across the desert glaciers.

Poetry Appreciation

This poem was written by Lu You when he was 68 years old. On the one hand, the poem expresses the poet's heroic ideal of longing to serve in the army thousands of miles away and serve the country with his own life; on the other hand, it expresses the poet's sadness and indignation that his ambition is difficult to achieve and he has no way to find a job. The more devoted the poet is to his ideal, the stronger his grief and indignation becomes. This kind of grief, indignation and loyalty are always stirring in his soul, making him unable to sleep at night and unable to eat satisfactorily.

As Qian Zhongshu said: "Patriotic sentiment was saturated throughout Lu You's life and permeated all his works; he saw a painting of horses, encountered a few flowers, and heard the sound of wild geese. Well, drinking a few glasses of wine and writing a few lines of cursive handwriting would arouse thoughts of revenge and national humiliation, making his blood boil. Moreover, this craze broke out of the boundaries of his waking life during the day, and even overflowed into his dreams. This is also not found in other people's poetry collections.
