Gleeck's Poems

Castilla

Lucrezia Borgia

Orange blossoms in full bloom over Castilla?

Over Castilla, orange flowers dance in the wind.

Children begging for coins?

The children are begging for coins.

I met my lover under an orange tree?

I once met the person I love, under an orange tree.

Or a locust tree?

Is that acacia?

Or is he not my love?

Isn't he the one I love?

I saw this, and then I dreamed about this:

I've read these and dreamed about them:

Can sobriety save what happened to me?

Now that I'm awake, can I recall what happened to me?

The bells of San Miguel?

The bells of San Miguel Island?

Ring in the distance?

Distant echo

Is his hair golden and white in the shadow?

His hair is blond and slightly white in the shadow.

I dreamed about this,

I used to dream about this,

Does this mean it didn't happen?

Does this mean it never happened?

Does it have to happen in the world to be true?

Is it true?/You don't say.

I dreamed everything. The story?

I once dreamed of everything, this story.

Became my story:?

This became my story:

He was lying beside me,

He was lying next to me,

My hand grazed the skin on his shoulder?

My hand stroked the skin on his shoulder.

Noon, then evening:?

At noon, then at night:

In the distance, the sound of the train?

In the distance, the sound of the train

But not this world:

But this is not the world:

In the world, one thing will happen eventually, absolutely.

In this world, one thing will definitely happen in the end.

Thought cannot reverse it. ?

Thought cannot reverse it.

Castilla: The nuns walked through the dark garden in pairs. ?

Castiel: The nuns walked through the dark garden in pairs.

Outside the walls of the holy angels?

Outside the wall of St. Angel's Church

Children begging for coins?

The children are begging for coins.

When I woke up, I was crying.

If I wake up crying,

Is this unrealistic?

Isn't that true?

I met my lover under an orange tree:

I once met the person I love, under the orange tree:

I've forgotten?

What did I forget?

Only facts, no inference-?

It's just these facts, not that inference—

There are children, somewhere, crying for coins?

Somewhere, there are children shouting and begging for coins.

I dreamed everything, and I gave it to myself.

I dream of everything, and I am addicted to it.

Once and for all?

Completely, forever

The train sent us back?

The train took us back.

Madrid first?

Go to Madrid first

And then go to the Basque country?

Then I went to Basque country.

According to Nobel official website, the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2020 was won by American poet Louise gleeck. The reason for winning the prize is "because of her impeccable poetic voice, she universalized the existence of individuals with simple aesthetic feeling".

She has been deliberately erasing things other than poetry and the possible influence of the author on readers' reading works in real life, and she is becoming more and more determined. For example, except that she wrote a short "preface by the author" when she published the Four Poems in early 1995, all her poems are just poems, and there are no words such as preface and postscript.

She said that her only contribution to Mount Ale was her poems. In addition, it is not easy for her to get her photo and signature in this collection of poems.
