Su Wu and Li Ling were from the time of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty. They fell into trouble with the Huns almost at the same time. They both experienced hardships in a foreign country, and their friendship was extraordinary. In 81 BC (the sixth year of Emperor Zhao of the Han Dynasty), the Han Dynasty reached a peace agreement with the Xiongnu. When Su Wu returned home, Li Ling bought wine to see Su Wu off. There have always been debates about the author and writing time of "Su Li Shi". But now it is generally believed that "Poems of Su Li" were written by literati in the late Eastern Han Dynasty under the name of Su Li, and the writing period should not be far different from "Nineteen Ancient Poems".
The total number of "Su Li poems" that can be confirmed now is twenty-two. But the most familiar among the "Poems of Su and Li" are Li Ling's "Three Poems with Su Wu" and Su Wu's "Four Poems" collected in Volume 29 of "Selected Works" by Xiao Tong of the Southern Dynasty.
