Golky's "Petrel" was published in April 1901. "Petrel" is the song sung at the end of Gorky's short story "Melody of Spring". It is a famous prose poem. Gorky created it in March 1901. Gorky first sent it to the Courier in Moscow, but the censors banned it from publication. Gorky then sent the novel to the Petersburg "Life" magazine, but it was also banned by the authorities. However, the concluding part of the novel "Haiyan" was published separately in the April 1901 issue of "Life" magazine. This was due to the censor's negligence. As soon as the work was published, the tsarist authorities quickly closed down "Life" magazine.
