Ancient people like to beat around the bush, and they have to be guessed to show their level. You can't write a poem pointing at the emperor's nose and scolding him, for fear that your career will come to an end, so you need to be tactful, so you have borrowed the ancient times.
This form not only happened in the Song Dynasty, but also existed in almost every dynasty. For example, in Wang Changling's always in my heart in the Tang Dynasty, it was written that "I suddenly saw the color of a stranger's willow, and regretted teaching my husband to find a marquis", which is the same type as always in my heart's ci in the Song Dynasty, but most of the poems in the Tang Dynasty were heroic to read, while those in the Song Dynasty were more graceful and restrained.
This has something to do with the historical environment of each period. In the Tang Dynasty, when all nations came to Korea, ordinary people could naturally feel pride. Therefore, self-confidence is the main theme of this era. Even always in my heart has to say heroic atmosphere, and only a few people will dress themselves up as delicate little ladies and make a few unnecessary complaints.
But not in the Song Dynasty. The shadow of war has always hung over the whole dynasty, so many times it is a little petty, but it is impossible to make too many heroic wars. In the Song Dynasty, literature was valued over martial arts, so there were many literati. There were many people, so there were rivers and lakes. In itself, there were more people and less meat. In addition, the party and government were fierce, and the literati were under great pressure, but they had to maintain their literati style, so they could only go in the graceful direction. If they were wronged, they had to be a boudoir.
To learn martial arts, goods and emperors' families well, Confucianism educates readers to cultivate their morality and rule the country, so politics is the way most scholars want to go. Going out to be an official will inevitably lead to some profiteering and bullying, which is a frequent occurrence. Scholars have a good face, so they can't directly tear off their faces and spray them. It is a big sin to slander Shangguan and Jun, so they must be tactful.
For example, when writing about always in my heart, you can express the feeling of being ignored. Imagine a seven-foot-tall man, where he said that the emperor didn't come to favor me, and suddenly felt a little toothache, but the literati at that time took this bite and told things in a roundabout way. It was also a good thing for smart people to understand at a glance. If it is relegated by the emperor, then there will be a complaint of abandoning the wife and calling the emperor fickle. This was written by Wang Anshi after the failure of the political reform. On the surface, it is a woman's resentment after being abandoned. In fact, it is really a complaint with the emperor again. The translation is "At first, you said that you would like to reform, and now you say that you can't play, sell me, and finally my tears will fall down when you know the truth, but as long as you still love, I will come back and let's reform together."
Although many graceful and restrained tunes in Song Ci make women's gestures, which makes people feel a little sticky, there are also many literati in Song Dynasty who are good, and their delicate feelings are all made of social materials. It doesn't matter, as long as they are interested in blood and devotion to their country. After thousands of years of wind and frost, we can still feel the clank of the times, and only poetry pays for ambition, so why not be afraid of red makeup and martial makeup? The literati in Song Dynasty are much better than those in Ming Dynasty.
