Character experience
Grow up and learn
Wang Dawei, a native of Dongguan, Guangdong Province, was born in Beijing on 19 18 and grew up in Shanghai and Suzhou. He is the only son of Wang Chonghui (188 1958), the first foreign minister of the Republic of China.
After graduating from Suzhou Jinghai Primary School, she studied in Nanjing Jinling Middle School and Suzhou Soochow Junior High School. 1930, I went to The Hague with my father and entered Swiss Li Zilin Middle School (or Nai Middle School and Mei Middle School). 1936 was admitted to department of mechanical engineering, Cambridge University, UK, and transferred to the Department of Architecture next year. 194 1 studied under the modern German architects Walter Gropes (later chairman of Bauhaus) and Mies van der Rohe. He was also a classmate with two other famous architects, I.M. Pei and philip johnson, and obtained a master's degree in architectural design at 1942+00. I was familiar with Rousseau's works during my stay at Harvard, and social customs had the deepest influence on it.
After school life
After graduating from Harvard, he refused the invitation of Princeton University's Ballistics Research Project and M. Brewer, and accepted the invitation of Wei Daoming, then ambassador to the United States, to be attached to the China Embassy in the United States. After returning to Shanghai, together with four friends, we established Wulian Architects' Office (1947), which is in charge of "Urban Planning of Greater Shanghai" in the Urban Planning Committee of Shanghai Municipal Government.
Wang Dawei is one of the few first-generation China architects who have experienced "complete" training. First of all, he comes from a scholarly family in the upper class of China and has experienced the traditional architectural spaces in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou. Later, I was immersed in humanistic Europe for many years. Finally, he "kissed" the first generation of avant-garde modern architects such as Gropes and Smith in the United States, which made him walk confidently and calmly between the two cultures, which the younger generation of architects in Taiwan Province Province could not do in the future.
As for China's tradition, he thinks that China's configuration is one after another, one room and one dress, which can meet people's demand for mystery. The Chinese wall also gives full play to its role, isolating the house from the outside world and increasing the sense of implication in the house. These seemingly simple and easy-to-understand truths require complete cultivation and life experience.
1947 Wang Dalong left the United States to practice in Shanghai. Since 1949, the nationalist buildings in Taiwan Province Province have been rushed to deal with. Retroism is even worse in Chinese mainland, and it is extremely vulgar. However, the sun yat-sen memorial hall designed by Uncle Wang has been changed. This paper explores the organic combination of modern architectural concepts, architectural models and the traditional architectural spirit of China, breaks away from the stereotype of large-scale public buildings imitating the old and restoring ancient ways, and turns from classicism to modernism.
The planning of the Palace Museum and the self-occupied residence on Jianguo South Road are based on the modernist concept, which has made important enlightenment and demonstration contributions to the development of modern architecture in Taiwan Province Province. They are one of the most important architects in the modern architectural history of China, connecting the past with the future and leading an era. Just like Mr. Feng Jizhong, the practice of modern architectural concept is in a marginal position in the history of modern architecture on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
