Today's Weichuan Town in Weishui

Weichuan Town, located in the southwest of Weishi County, is named after the Pingchuan area located downstream of the Wei River. The Wei River, also known as the "Double River", is the boundary river between Weishi and Changge counties. It is also the largest river in Weichuan Town, flowing through the town for 17 kilometers. Benefiting from the Wei River, Weichuan was once a dock for floods and droughts in history, and trade prospered. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Weizhou was established, and after the Jin Dynasty, Weichuan County was established. The south gate of Weichuan City built in the Ming Dynasty has been preserved to this day. A 500-year-old cypress grows diagonally in the brick crack above the city gate, with lush branches and unique branch shapes.

The Mei River Basin was the center of Huangdi’s activities in prehistoric times and was also the area with the most intensive human activities in my country at that time. From the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period, the population and culture on both sides of the fertile Mishui River flourished, so the most beautiful poems in the Book of Songs were produced on the banks of the Mishui River. Confucius said: "Three hundred poems can be summed up in one sentence: thinking is innocent." This is probably the reason why he regarded "The Book of Songs" as a Confucian classic. Men and women along the Qinwei River gather together on the banks of the beautiful spring river, gathering for love, rejoicing in love, singing sultry love songs, teasing and pleasing each other, expressing love freely and forthrightly and boldly. How beautiful is this kind of love without the shackles of ethics and secular prejudice? It is respect for human nature and lively life, and compliance with the spirit of heaven and earth. The singing of those folk singers exudes a fresh and natural atmosphere.
