Lei Feng (December 18, 1940 - August 15, 1962), formerly known as Lei Zhengxing, was born in Changsha, Hunan, a soldier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and a communist fighter. He joined the Chinese Young Pioneers in 1954, the People's Liberation Army of China in 1960, and the Communist Party of China in November of the same year. In May 1961, Lei Feng, as a candidate of his army, was elected as a representative of the Fourth People's Congress of Fushun City, Liaoning Province. On February 19, 1962, Lei Feng attended the first Communist Youth League Representative Conference of the Shenyang Military Region as a special representative and was selected as a member of the presidium to speak at the conference. On August 15, 1962, Lei Feng died in the line of duty at the age of 22.
