Wang Yucheng, born in Juye, Jeju (now Shandong), was a poet, essayist and minister in the Northern Song Dynasty. Wang Yucheng, a farmer, could write at the age of 9. In the eighth year of Taiping Xingguo, he was a scholar, and served as the main book and the right post of Chengwu (now Shandong); Later, Zuo Si remonstrated, issued a letter and sentenced Dali Temple. In the fourth year of Xianping, Wang Yucheng moved to qi zhou and died.
Wang Yucheng dares to be angry and dare not speak, and his character is fond of hiding. He takes it as his duty to practice the Tao directly, because his writing involves many rules and satires, so it is not tolerated by customs. When Zhenzong ascended the throne, he should make five edicts and systematically put forward his proposition of political reform. He was also a pioneer in the poetry and prose innovation movement in the Northern Song Dynasty, taking it as his duty to change the style of writing. Poetry and prose changed into the delicate habit of carving and painting in the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, which was not strange and difficult for Liu Kai and others in the early Song Dynasty.

Wang Yucheng is one of the first outstanding writers who stood up against extravagant writing style and advocated simplicity since the early years of Northern Song Dynasty and the end of Tang Dynasty. He opposed obscure and carved chapters and sentences, which paved the way for Ouyang Xiu and Mei's poetry innovation movement later, so he was highly praised by later generations.
