Changsun Wugou (581-649), courtesy name Wugou and nickname Mengde, was a famous poet and politician in the early Tang Dynasty. He was born in Longxi (now Longxi County, Gansu Province). He was the grandson of Changsun Sheng, the founding hero of the Tang Dynasty, and the son of Changsun Ao.
Changsun Wugu showed outstanding talents when he was young. He once served in the Sui Dynasty, but resigned because of dissatisfaction with the political corruption of the Sui Dynasty. After the fall of the Sui Dynasty, he joined the Tang Dynasty and was given the surname Li and the name Wugao by Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty. He successively held the positions of Prince Xima, Shangshu Zuocheng, and Shangshu of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Because of his integrity and outstanding political achievements, he was known as "innocent".
