Whole poem:
Wu Xichou in Song Dynasty
The building is high in first frost, the sound leaks late and goes it alone.
As soon as the moon grinds the mirror, it grabs the chess pieces.
It's hard to get a guest in the cold season, and the old man pays for poetry.
I feel very sad and speechless, knowing that the breeze freezes the plum.
Wu Xichou (12 15- 1276) was born in Xiuning (present-day Anhui Province), with the word Fan and later name Lun. After learning from Cheng Ruoyong, he resigned at the age of 30. He learned from Xianchun that Ye Chang of Nankang had hired Bailudong Academy, so he resigned. Duan Zongjingyan died in the first year at the age of 62.
This is a poem about scenery. At the end of the year, the season is getting colder and it is near dusk. A poet wandering in East Chudong climbed the stairs and leaned against the railing alone. The building is high in first frost, and time seems to be frozen, and it passes too slowly (this is the same psychology of people wandering outside), and the loneliness of parting and drifting comes to mind. The bright moon in the sky is like a polished mirror; Sparse stars are like a chess game. Seeing the sparse stars and the cold atmosphere this month made the poet feel more miserable. It's freezing, and it's near dusk. I am old, empty and lonely. I have nowhere to tell my sad feelings, but I can only talk to Meihua in the cold wind. The last four sentences concentrate on the poet's lonely and desolate mood when wandering in a foreign land.
