The Original Text, Annotation, Translation and Appreciation of Lu You's "Yongmei"

Lu you

Lu You (1125 ~1210) was born in Yin Shan (now Shaoxing, Zhejiang). Lu You is a staunch anti-gold faction, so he is constantly vilified and attacked by stubborn old school in his official career. After middle age, he entered Shu State, and served as the Senate officer of Chengdu University. Although he didn't realize his desire to defeat the enemy and save the country, his middle-aged military life accumulated a lot of material for his poetry creation. Lu You lived in his hometown in Yin Shan in his later years and still missed the reunification of the motherland when he died. He has written all his life. Today, there are more than 9,300 poems handed down from generation to generation, such as "Jiannan Poem Draft", "Weinan Anthology" and "Notes of Laoxue Temple".

Buzo Yongmei

original text

Outside the bridge, the plum blossoms are lonely, no matter what. Twilight arrival, plum blossom is helpless, already exhausted, but also subject to wind and rain.

Plum blossoms don't want to compete for blooming, and the envy and rejection of flowers don't care. Even after autumn, when it is ground into dirt and turned into dust, plum blossoms still emit fragrance as usual.

translate

Beside the broken bridge outside the post station, she was lonely and open, with no worries. It's dusk, and I'm still sad alone, bullied by the sudden wind and rain. I have no intention of competing for spring scenery, and I am laughed at and envied by all flowers. Even if the debris falls and grinds to ashes, the refreshing fragrance remains.

Distinguish and appreciate

This is a very famous word, and the poet not only praised Mei's noble quality.

The first sentence of the last film is about Mei's harsh living environment, the desolation of "broken bridge outside the post" and the lack of people, which eventually leads to "loneliness and ownerless". A wild plum blooms alone in such a desolate environment, and no one appreciates it and picks it. That's all. When I was sad alone at night, there was another storm. It was really a rainy day, and the situation was extremely bad. But the plum blossom in adversity does not yield, even if it is lonely, even if it has no owner, it is still open. The loneliness at dusk and the destruction of wind and rain naturally make it impossible to open. Here, the poet used three images: "the bridge outside the post is broken", "dusk" and "wind and rain", which highlighted Mei's loneliness and firmness.

The next poet expressed his unyielding and firm heart through Mei. Plum blossoms, which have no intention of competing for spring, just bloom indifferently in the spring, while bad karma's qunfang is still jealous, and Mei can only let nature take its course. On the surface, Mei is written here, but in fact, people and Mei are combined together. Through Mei, the poet expressed his noble character of not "making eyes at others, bowing down to be noble". However, the unruly plum blossom has a tragic fate. Plum blossoms withered in the wind and rain have turned into soil and been crushed into dust. At the end of the sentence, "only the fragrance remains unchanged" means that although the plum blossom body is gone, the fragrance is still there. This once again reflects Mei's tenacity and implies the poet's firm determination to resist gold.

The whole poem uses symbols and metaphors flexibly, realizing the perfect combination of man and plum, which can be described as the best of Yongmei's ci.
