-Reading and sharing of modern poetry theories and techniques.
"In April, the world is beautiful everywhere, and the peach blossoms in the mountain temple."
Spring in the temple is as deep as April in the north, and it seems that spring has just begun. I prefer to use the lunar calendar to correspond to its meaning, at least for now, at least in March.
March is the season about poetry. All you can see is poetry, which can inadvertently trigger that string of poems.
Unfortunately, I can't write poetry. Only in this season, there is always a poetic heart ready to move. Therefore, on the bookshelf of "WeChat Reading", there is an additional book "Modern Poetry Theory and Skills" by Tan Dejing's predecessors, knowing that I am holding this "big guy" just like a small squirrel holding a big watermelon.
The best way to force yourself is to output. In this poetic season, an uneasy poetic soul is waiting to be appeased.
We can not write poetry, but we need a poetic life.
Xiao Bai, who loves reading, needs to know more about poetry. Because poetry is the essence of language, reading poetry can improve our aesthetic ability, enrich our imagination and improve our creativity. In short, reading poetry and learning poetics are beneficial and harmless.
So, how do you define poetry?
Everyone has an impression of poetry, but to really say what poetry is is, it is no less than "talking about Zen", and it is clear about its mystery, but it is irrelevant.
In Aristotle's Nicokal Ethics, there is such a dialogue:
Powell: "So, sir, what is poetry?"
Johnson: "Ah, sir, it's much easier to say nothing about poetry." We all know what light is, but it is not easy to say clearly what light is. "
Indeed, it is easier to explain what a thing is than what it is not. So, what is poetry?
Each family has its own opinion.
1. Love theory
When we read an article on "poetry criticism" or "reading theory", the most common sentence is "poetry expresses ambition and praises things." There is no essential difference between China's traditional "expressing ambition" and "fatalism". The difference is probably that "Yan Zhi" emphasizes the practicality of emotional expression and the neutralization of some emotional expression. Emotional expression is still emotion, not the so-called ideas or arms, so we classify them here, such as:
"A poet, where there is ambition, has ambition in his heart and speaks like a poem." (A Brief Introduction to the Poems of Scapharca subcrenata)
This definition or exposition of poetry with emotion as the core is also common in modern and foreign poetry theories, such as:
"The essence of poetry is lyrical, lyrical words are not poetic, but also poetry. (Guo Moruo, "On the Spread of Poetry")
"Poetry is a natural expression of strong feelings." (Preface to Wordsworth's Lyric Songs (1800 Edition))
Second, the theory of language form
This view originated in modern literature and its later period, probably related to the popularity of formalism literary theory. For example:
Poetry is the most coherent writing. (Coleridge's literary biography)
Poetry is a distorted text that is blocked. (shklovsky's On Russian Formalism)
The theory of love and the theory of language form are respectively defined from the most core or essential aspects of poetry.
Three. comprehensive
There is also a third most powerful definition, which can be called "synthesis theory", which generally comes from theoretical works. Because theorists pay attention to the comprehensiveness and logical rationality of academic theories, they will come up with a complete theory or definition, such as:
Poetry is a unified whole formed by the combination of plastic arts and music at a higher stage in the spiritual field itself. (Hegel's Aesthetics)
Poetry is a style that can best reflect social life. It is saturated with rich imagination and feelings, and its language is different from prose in the degree of exquisiteness and harmony, especially in the distinct rhythm. ? (He Qifang, "About Reading and Writing Poems")
Poet is the father of poetry, which breeds language and poetry. (Auden, Elizabeth Zhu, A Guide to Appreciation of Contemporary British and American Poetry)
In addition to the above three definitions, there are also some "biased troops", such as the "imagination theory" mentioned by the American poet Carl Sandberg in "On the Definition of Trial Poetry".
Poetry is an imaginary connection between the wings of a white butterfly and the fragments of a love letter.
In the Debate on Poetry, Shelley said: "In the ordinary sense, poetry can be defined as the expression of imagination."
How should we evaluate these definitions?
The above three definitions have their own characteristics, and they all capture some essential factors of poetry from different angles. In particular, a considerable number of definitions in the so-called "synthesis theory" should be comprehensive, especially the definitions of Hegel, He Qifang and Elizabeth, which can be said to be impeccable.
If we define things, logically speaking, we should follow the principle of "two concepts" plus "belonging concept". A concept represents the general nature of things, while a generic concept represents the difference between this generic concept and other generic concepts under the same concept. Specific to poetry, it is able to point out the difference between poetry and other literary genres.
To define a definition is to include almost all phenomena in concise language. Emotion is one of the most important sources of poetry, but it is not the only source. Because there are philosophical poems, poems expressing ideas, and so on.
Professor Tan defined poetry in one sentence: "Poetry is the rhythm of the most meaningful language form"
,
A typical example, such as Cang Kejia's Three Generations:
children
Bathe in the mud
dad
Sweat in the soil
grandpa
Bury in the soil
In just over twenty words, we have written about the relationship between farmers and land, their fate and their bitterness from generation to generation. Rhythm, meaning, language form? All in a little poem.
After reading this, do we know more about poetry? If you are also interested in modern poetry, you might as well read Professor Tan Dejing's Theory and Skills of Modern Poetry. The book analyzes poetry from multiple angles and levels, and splits it out for everyone to see, so that I, a little white who doesn't know poetry, have a certain understanding and interest in poetry.
However, when I first opened the book, I saw a tall hall standing in front of me. I was afraid to break in, but its open door encouraged me to take the first step bravely. After that, I was involved in the whirlpool of poetry and was willing to fall.
In this regard, I would rather be transformed into a punctuation mark in poetry, and I can't help but dig out a few lines of rude words to comfort March's poetry.
March poetry
Wrapped in a cold winter night,
There was a slight smoky night wind.
Afraid to see the flowers on the tree,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Memory just smelled cherry blossoms.
Sing when you are sad.
Green and fat, red and thin, people smile at the spring breeze.
Cann't help it,
Love words of streams;
I can't press it,
Wild holly.
A grass pushed away the thick rock,
Shandandan's smile broke out in the deep valley.
These,
Nothing to do with wind, nothing to do with water,
Only the poems of March.
Its smile is too warm,
Its pen and ink? Full of irresolvable blush.
March belongs to poetry, to us and to every life.
Let's integrate into March and reflect the poetry of March.
