There is another sky.

Emily Dickinson

There is another sky,

Always quiet and fair,

There is another sunshine,

Although it was dark there;

Forget the faded forest, Austin,

Never mind the silent fields-

There is a small forest here.

Whose leaves are always green;

There is a brighter garden here.

Where there is no frost;

In its immortal flower

I hear bright bees buzzing:

Please, my brother,

Come to my garden!

This poem is meaningful, but easy to understand. Literally, Emily Dickinson describes a quiet garden where there are always warm sunshine, beautiful flowers and evergreen trees; A garden full of happiness. At the end of the poem, she invited her brother Austin to enjoy happiness in her garden.

However, in my opinion, Emily Dickinson wrote more than just a beautiful garden in this poem. The quiet garden here represents a beautiful life for which everyone works hard, which is completely different from their life full of sadness and despair. Therefore, this poem depicts Emily's belief and optimism about the beauty of life.

Emily writes for her brother Austin, who is a lawyer. She may want to tell him that although there is always pain and misfortune in the world, there is also beauty. Through her words, Emily wants her brother to stay away from the hectic life he leads and escape to a surreal and pure forest. She shared her optimism with him, hoping that he could find hope and peace in the future, even in the difficult times of his life.

The garden in this poem is a symbol of happiness. As Emily Dickinson is a religious and spiritual poet, she may refer to the Garden of Eden, a happy garden. In the Garden of Eden, unlike in our world, everything should be perfect. As a believer, she knows this very well.
