Xuan paper can be divided into raw Xuan and cooked Xuan.

When water drops fall on rice paper, the water droplets that fall on the paper gradually spread to all sides are raw xuan, while the water droplets that fall on the paper and do not spread immediately or no longer spread are cooked xuan.

Raw rice paper has good ink permeability and is suitable for writing cursive seal script and regular script above Zhongkai. Shuxuan has poor ink permeability and is suitable for writing small regular script without causing the strokes to be bloated and lifeless.
