Songs of the Chu is a poetic style that rose in Chu during the Warring States Period. Influenced by The Book of Songs. For example, Ode to Nine Chapters of Orange uses four sentences, and every other sentence uses an "Xi" at the end of the sentence, which can be regarded as the infiltration of the style of The Book of Songs. But what is directly related to it is the ballad that was born and bred in the south. In the past, Chu Ci only existed in fragments of historical records. Only in the mid-Warring States period, after a series of works by Qu Yuan and others appeared in the field of Chu Ci, "Chu Ci" became a literary style.
Since the Han Dynasty, "Chu Ci" has become the general term for the works of Qu Yuan and others.
