Characteristics of Gong Dingzi's Poems

Gong Dingzi was quite famous in the early Qing Dynasty, and he was also called "the Three Masters of Jiang Zuo" with Qian and Wu. These three masters all come from the same source, and they are all characters in Biography of Chen Er. However, in the evaluation of his poems, the present and future generations have a low evaluation of Gong. Looking at Gong's poems, there are indeed many works of reward and rhyme. More than one-third of the forty-three volumes of Ding Shan Tang Ji are of this kind, all of which are marked with the words "send", "give", "harmony" and "secondary rhyme", but it cannot be concluded that these works are all works with empty content and moaning. The author believes that it is in these works that Gong naturally reveals his yearning for the motherland and his understanding of life experience, and expresses his sincere feelings without artificial processing in advance.

A large part of Gong Dingzi's poems are expressions of remorse and self-blame for being an official, that is, the sadness of losing one's way. The word "lost" is the most used word in Gong's poems, and its high frequency of appearance is really rare in his contemporary literati collections. Another example is the famous "feeling of returning to the nest for the first time": "The loser mourns his country's autumn and dares not hang up his nest. The book spread that Huang Er changed his face into sorrow because he entered Romania. The bright moon has a poor corner, and the flowers are not close to the tall buildings. There are songs in Taicheng, scattered into Nanyun. "

The image of "disorientation" is widely used in many farewell poems, caring poems and answering poems by Gong Dingzi, who used this image to summarize all kinds of complex emotions expressing inner regret, self-blame, vicissitudes and shame. For example, in the fourth year of Kangxi's "Reunion of Old Friends Yan Gugu": "In the south of the city, Xiao Temple remembers the bed, and the chicken in Fohuo Village is even frostier. Although I was in tears, the sand road was desolate for a long time. A strong man is not helpless when he is lost, but his wife has her own hometown every spring. Andrew even called the Han Dynasty and the Zhao Dynasty, both of which were short and turbid. " Yan Gugu and jiyan are old friends of Gong. After Ming Taizu's death, Yan was arrested for resisting Qing Dynasty, and they haven't seen each other for many years. When we met again, Gong was about to settle the case for Yan, feeling ashamed and happy, and wanted to reunite with other friends such as Han Shengqiu and Zhao Youyi. This poem shows Gong's joy, shame and subtle ecstasy when facing his old friend. In the face of an old friend, Gong Dingzi made no secret of her guilt, remorse and shame about "losing her way".

In Gong Dingzi's poems, besides the theme of the pain of disorientation, the yearning for the motherland is another important theme. In the poem "If a farmer would reply with a poem", Gong expressed his strong yearning for his motherland: "Once married, flies attach themselves to the grass." The bonfire suddenly became a stranger, and first frost admired the city. Flower fans worry about the country, and the sunset river beam hates self-knowledge. Suiyuan remnant Liu went again, and there was no way to solve his lovesickness. "Jiang Cai, the word is like a farmer, because words don't come from prevention. Gong Dingzi wrote to save him three times. Gong died in the Ming Dynasty and became an official in the New Dynasty. Jiang was a famous adherent at that time. At this time, when the two meet again, it is already a change of scenery, and friends and enemies are scattered. The anxiety of "Flowers Lost in the Motherland" and the resentment of "The Red Beam in the Sunset" vividly and accurately depict Gong's complex mentality, that is, he has both a deep love for the motherland and a sense of shame about Li Ling's identity. " As the image and carrier of the traditional culture opposed to the new dynasty, "Old Country" shows the profound remorse of the two ministers for getting lost, and also shows the cultural character of the two ministers, poets and their followers, which is an important reason why they are very close despite their different political positions. Gong Dingzi's homesickness can be said to be everywhere. No matter in the lively ballroom, before the banquet, or missing friends, hurting spring and mourning autumn, the author can arouse strong homesickness. The old country is like a thread lingering in my heart, pulling one hair and moving the whole body.
