In his early years, Qu Yuan was deeply trusted by Chu Huaiwang and had the reputation of "the first person in Chu Ci". He is practicing medicine, often discussing state affairs with him, advocating the unification of Chu and Qi, and repeatedly opposing making friends with Qin. After Chu Huaiwang was detained in Wuguan, Zhao Haoqi of Qin continued to assist King Chu Xiang. In the sixth year of Chu (293 BC), Chu intended to make peace with Qin.
Qu Yuan rebuked Qing Xiang and Zilan, the king of Chu, and Qing Xiang was furious. Doctor Shangguan was shorter than Qing Xiang, the king of Chu, so Qu Yuan was expelled from Du Ying and exiled to more remote areas in the south of the Yangtze River. It lasted eighteen years. However, it was because of exile that Qu Yuan came into contact with the people at the bottom and the rich and vivid folk culture of Chu State, leaving behind the eternal masterpiece Song Li Sao.

Qu Yuan came from Qu Shi, a public official of Chu State, and was also called the royal family with Qu Shi, Zhao Shi and Shi Jing. Qu Yuan used to be a doctor, and it is said that he was in charge of the affairs of Zhao and Qu Shihe. Qu, Zhao and Jing are the most common names of Chu State. The descendants of Qu, such as Qu Zhong, Qu Wan, Qu Dao and Qu Jian, all held important positions in Chu State.
