Translating ancient poetry

Wu Ke put forward two arguments in these three poems:

First, poetry requires sudden enlightenment and requires direct proof. Therefore, poetry must be "rounded out" naturally. Wu Ke does not deny the importance of long-term and gradual Kung Fu practice like "Bamboo Couch and Futon Countless Years", but he believes that the more important key to learning poetry is the once transcendent enlightenment of "one's own mastery". He pointed out in "Zanghai Poetry Talk": "Dongpo's poems are not without finesse and roughness, and they should be eliminated. Ye Ji said: No. It is better to see the beauty in its unevenness and unevenness. The so-called "in its unevenness and unevenness" The wonderful thing you see is the trace of the poet's poetic interest and spiritual power communicating with nature, and the trace of enlightenment. This is the most precious part of the poem, just as the immature part of a young man's writing is the most innocent and therefore also the most innocent. The most precious thing is the same. According to the ancient poetry writing habits, after the layout is created, it usually requires too much modification and repeated polishing before it is completed. However, if you want to capture the Zen spirit in your poetry, you must avoid too much. It is best not to make any modification at all. "Zanghai Poetry Talk" points out: "Everything is good if you decorate it, but it will be boring if you read it again and again. It should be based on the intention, supplemented by gorgeousness, so that the middle and the sides are both sweet, and the decoration is plump on the outside but dry in the middle. Or it can be said to be 'showy but not real'. The poetry of the late Tang Dynasty was too ingenious. It only focused on being gorgeous, but weak in spirit and low in style, which led to poor style. Youzi's poem "Xu Tao" says, "Withered on the outside but creamy on the inside, fat on the outside but plump on the inside", which means that the meaning of the poem is inside." From this, it can be seen that the poem that Wu Ke talks about is the epiphany, which refers to the ripe ginseng. An epiphany based on the basics.

Secondly, poetry must have its own dignity, and it must break out of the stereotypes of the predecessors and oppose the Chen Chen Xiangyin who seems to put his head on his head. If you lack creativity when making poetry, you will not be able to make good poetry. Creativity is of paramount importance to all arts, be it painting or poetry. "Zanghai Shihua": Those who paint landscapes have both invisible and tangible diseases. Visible diseases are easy to treat, but invisible diseases cannot be cured. The same goes for poets. Any flaws that can be pointed out and corrected are visible diseases; those that cannot be pointed out and cannot be corrected are invisible diseases that cannot be cured. "It can be seen that the most important thing about Wu Ke's poetry is creation, and the most important thing about Wu Ke's Zen is creation.
