Looking at the starry sky was written for the completion of the Great Hall of the People in 1959. The whole poem has more than 230 lines and is divided into four chapters and two parts. The first half described me as a revolutionary soldier. Facing the vast starry sky, I show a strong sense of self in thinking about life and the universe beyond time and space. I express my feelings from this unique angle. The first half of the poem laments the nothingness and insignificance of life, while the second half changes from lamenting life to paving the way for the cause of human construction and the personality strength of combatants. "In the space of the great universe, life is just a flash of a meteor. In the torrent of infinite time, life is just a tiny wave, which reflects the phenomenon of human life poetically and implies some melancholy and pain. In this kind of melancholy and pain, it not only reflects the background of the serious consequences caused by the Great Leap Forward in the late 1950s, but also shows the author's serious thinking and induction of historical setbacks. At the same time, it also implies that revolutionaries should rethink their life, significance and destiny in the face of historical setbacks. Far-reaching consciousness of time and space, which transcends individuals and specific real events, and the resulting emotion and melancholy add depth to the poet's always clear and heroic poetic style, but his idealism keeps this emotion from being suppressed.
