How does Gu Yu's "Jiangnan Qu" portray characters?

Jiangnan Qu is one of the seven songs of Yuefu Shang Qing's Song Jiangnan Nong. Gu Yu's poems are one of the more interesting poems in life.

Never write boudoir love poems. Start by thinking about women's clothes, and then write their depressed parting feelings with exotic willows, Jiangnan songs, tall buildings and sleepless nights. This poem, on the other hand, borrows the simple folk genre and gives people a unique style.

The words "occasionally picking apples from the river" and "occasionally" indicate that the action of the character "picking apples from the river" is only a temporary accident. "Still competing with female companions" is obviously indispensable to others. The word "still together" reflects her trance-like expression. "Picking apples" or "Saijiang God" is not the original intention of this young woman at this moment, but just reflects her anxiety and confusion about "far away".

However, even so, sometimes a small move will reveal the secret in her heart, and finally "invest money in the dark to educate people" to pin her thoughtful feelings. On the surface, she seems to pray for happiness to "Jiang Shen" like everyone else. In fact, she "throws money in the dark" and predicts when "Ren Yuan" will return. And she did all this very carefully, afraid of being teased, afraid to "make it clear" during divination, pretending to invest money and taking a "secret vote" to hide people's eyes and ears. In this way, the poet focuses on the expression that young women dare not speak and dare not throw, but can only "secretly throw", which is realistic and delicate, and expresses a young woman's deep affection diplomatically.

This poem uses function words such as "Lian Xiang", "Huan Yi" and "Dare not" as the finishing touch, vividly reproduces the inner activities of the characters, and at the same time captures a touching detail to describe the psychology of the characters, which is rare in early Tang poetry.
