The main forms of literature in the Southern Dynasties were poetry and parallel prose. Representative writers include Bao Zhao and Xie Lingyun in the Liu and Song Dynasties. Bao Zhao's Yuefu poems are powerful and unrestrained, full of grief and indignation; Xie Lingyun's landscape poems are exquisite and fresh. The palace-style poems of the Liang Dynasty paid attention to the selection of tone and color, regularity and beautiful work. The outstanding writers include Xie Tiao, Shen Yue, Jiang Yan and so on.
