If the first half of19th century English poetry can be called Wordsworth Age, then the second half can be called Tennyson Age. A.L. Tennyson (1809- 1892) was born in a parish priest's family in Summersby, Lincolnshire. He was the most popular and famous poet in England in the19th century, and also the most popular and distinctive poet in Victorian England.
His poems accurately reflect the mainstream views and interests of his time, which is unmatched by English poets of any time. One of his masterpieces is the group poem Mourning, which is the greatest elegy in English literature and Tennyson's most enduring work.
Tennyson's elegy collection "Ai" was very popular as soon as it came out. This collection of poems contains 13 1 poems. The poet learned from a painful experience, questioned the suffering in this life and was full of longing for the life in the afterlife. Between the lines, he developed his friendship with old friends into his love for mankind. Queen Victoria thinks this book of poems can comfort her the most besides the Bible. Tennyson was named Poet Laureate after Wordsworth, who had just died, because he won the favor of the Queen.
Tennyson inherited and carried forward the long tradition of English poetry. With his exquisite skills, rigorous meter, harmonious rhyme and rich musical beauty, he showed unparalleled artistic talent and was recognized as the most outstanding poet in Victorian England.
His works have beautiful rhymes and pure words, which have inspired many British artists. Tennyson is known as "probably the most sensitive English poet" for his exquisite poetic skills. He was also inspired by Laozi and wrote a long poem "Ancient Sage" based on Laozi's life and works.
He thinks The Sage is one of the best poems in his later period. The "sage" or prophet in the poem refers to Laozi, an ancient philosopher in China. Tennyson has a happy personal life and has been living an idyllic life in the country. Tennyson's short lyric poems are very wonderful, and the descriptions of British scenery, natural scenery and natural sounds are excellent.
