Tu Youyou's Youyou is taken from "The Book of Songs·Xiaoya".
Tu Youyou was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province on December 30, 1930. She was the only girl among five children in her family. "The deer roars, eating apples from the wild", a famous line from "The Book of Songs·Xiaoya" expresses Tu Youyou's parents' good expectations for her.
In 1935, 5-year-old Tu Youyou was sent to kindergarten by her parents. One year later, she entered the junior high school of Ningbo Private Chongde Primary School and became a primary school student. She attended Ningbo Private West Primary School at the age of 11, junior high school at Ningbo Qizhen Private Middle School at the age of 13, and Ningbo Yongjiang Private Girls' Middle School at the age of 15.
