About the author

Li Yu, the empress of the Southern Tang Dynasty, had the courtesy name Chongguang. The son of the central lord Li Jing. Reigned for 17 years. After surrendering to the Song Dynasty, he was poisoned to death by Taizong Zhao Guangyi. He was the last emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty and a highly educated man of letters. He is good at calligraphy and painting, has a good understanding of music and rhythm, and is good at all kinds of poetry and articles. His status in the history of Chinese literature is mainly determined by his unique artistic achievements. He used clear and concise language to express complex thoughts and feelings, making his poetry a new style of lyrical poetry, which had a greater influence on the poetry world of later generations. This dream-remembering poem was written by Li Yu when he was imprisoned in Bianjing after his country was destroyed in the Song Dynasty. Use the happy scenes in dreams to express the sadness in real life.

"How much hatred is in the soul of last night's dream." The meaning of the sentence is: all the sorrow and anger come from what happened in last night's dream. This sentence summarizes the whole word and points out the main idea. Of course, what I hate is not "last night's dream", but the dream itself. Although he was always attached to the things in the dream, the cruel reality he faced after waking up from the dream made him feel doubly embarrassed, so he resented last night's dream instead. The eight characters "Liao Liao" summarily describe the mood of longing day and night, mixed with sorrow and anger, and incomprehensible depression. It's so heart-wrenching.

These three sentences are all written in dreams. In the dream, the happy scene of visiting Shangyuan in the spring of the Southern Tang Dynasty reappeared. The sentence "The chariot is like flowing water and the horse is like a dragon" comes from "Book of the Later Han Dynasty: Queen Ma Ji". It should be: "The chariot is like flowing water, and the horse is like a swimming dragon." There is also a sentence in Tang poetry: "The chariot is like flowing water and the horse is like a dragon. Although predecessors have said it repeatedly, it has not left a deep impression on people; but once Li Yu entered the poem, it became a good sentence.
