Qilian Mountain is located at the junction of eastern Qinghai Province and western Gansu Province. It is also called "Wanbaoshan". Wanbaoshan contains many high-quality minerals, including asbestos, pyrite, chromite, copper, lead, zinc and other minerals. The climate in Qilian Mountain area is relatively wet and cold, which is beneficial to pasture growth. More than 2800 meters above sea level, there are large grasslands, which provide a good breeding ground for the development of animal husbandry.
Qilian Mountain originally refers to the northernmost mountain in the south of Hexi Corridor (the western end of Nanshan Corridor, 5547 meters above sea level), or "Qilian Mountain" in a narrow sense. "Qilian" is a Hun language. Huns call heaven "Qilian" and Qilian Mountain means "Tianshan Mountain". Because it is located in the south of Hexi Corridor, it is also called Nanshan in history, and there are also names such as Snow Mountain and Baishan.
