Creative background: Mr. Xu Shouchang, Lu Xun’s friend during his lifetime, once said in the article "Nostalgia" that the poem "Answering the Guest" was written "probably for his sake" My beloved son Hai Ying is lively and cute, and the guests said it was done just for pampering." In the early 1930s, a group of literati fabricated rumors and maliciously cursed Lu Xun's son Zhou Haiying, who was under one year old. They quoted the old saying that "father and son have no kindness" to satirize Lu Xun's paternal love for his youngest son.
On February 2, 1931, Lu Xun also said this in his "Letter to Wei Suyuan": "I gave birth to a boy who was one year and four months old. He was less than two months old. Within a short period of time, he was written about two or three times in the newspaper by "literary people", but he was not affected and was quite strong."
Among the "literary people" mentioned by Lu Xun, there was one named. A native of Yangcun used the pseudonym of "Little Reporter" to spread rumors about Lu Xun in newspapers, saying that Lu Xun "received a literary bonus from the Nanjing Central Party Committee and held a feast to celebrate his children's anniversary."
At the same time, he wrote an article saying that "Lu Xun held a soup cake party" and continued to spread rumors and slanders, which also affected Yu Dafu. In response, Lu Xun angrily criticized: "Even babies who were born less than a year ago were sprayed with blood along with me." This poem was written under this situation.
In this poem, the author Lu Xun completed the "start", "continue" and "turn" of the poem through negative sentences, rhetorical questions and interrogative sentences respectively; the first line of the poem "Being ruthless may not necessarily be a true hero" is adopted The negative sentence is not common in poetry creation, but it is straightforward and easy to understand, and it plays the role of clarifying the meaning.
