A Study of Demiwei's Classical Poetry

The study of China's classical poetry by Demiwei and his disciples is one of the outstanding achievements in this respect. He presided over and led the publication of 1962 Selected Classical Poems of China. Selected Classical Poems of China is a masterpiece of comprehensive translation of China's ancient poems. It translated 374 ancient poems (including poems) from The Book of Songs to Qing Dynasty, and selected and translated the works of 204 China classical poets. In addition to translating directly from Chinese, I also collected many predecessors' achievements. The publication of Selected Classical Poems of China is a great event in French Sinology after World War II, which occupies a "very important position" in the study of classical poems in China, France. It not only promoted the translation and study of China's classical poems by French Sinology, but also had a great influence on the whole Sinology. In particular, the 106 poems translated by more than 40 Tang poets such as Li Bai, Du Fu and Bai Juyi in Selected Classical Poems of China have aroused great repercussions, greatly promoted the translation and research of Tang poetry by French Sinology, and brought a new climax to the translation and research of Tang poetry in France in this century.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Sima Xiangru, a court poet, Nineteen Ancient Poems, MuNv and Silkworm Mother, Ji Kang's Life and Thoughts, Poetry and Politics: Ruan Ji (Hou) and The Language of Tang Poetry were all compiled by his students or by famous French ancient poetry experts in China.
