Purple can refer to two different colors: Purple (Violet) refers to the highest frequency part of the visible light of electromagnetic waves (700~790THz, 430~380nm), which is the highest frequency and shortest wavelength in the visible spectrum. Light and electromagnetic waves with a higher frequency are called ultraviolet (Ultraviolet, ultra-meaning above, beyond).

Purple refers to the secondary color superimposed by red (380~480THz, 780~620nm) and blue (600~700THz, 500~430nm). It is a neutral tone and is suitable for matching with gray.

Specially, in the "Painting Record" written by Huang Cheng of the Ming Dynasty, purple was interpreted as brown, sparrow head and other colors. Therefore, in ancient lacquerware, purple lacquerware generally refers to brown lacquerware.
