Xi Jiaotong University officially enrolled students majoring in English for Science and Technology 1979. At present, the English Department is formed by the merger of the original science and technology English major of Xi Jiaotong University, the medical English major of Xi Medical University and the financial English major of Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics. The main features are: based on the most basic practical language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing, making full use of the school resources of Jiaotong University, optimizing students' knowledge structure, and cultivating outstanding professionals with solid English language foundation, strong cross-cultural communication ability and extensive knowledge of natural and humanities and social sciences, who can engage in teaching, translation, scientific research and management in education, foreign trade, medicine, culture, press and publication and other departments. English majors in Jiaotong University include language and literature, business English, medical English and bilingualism (English-French, English-Russian, English-German).
English department pays attention to cultivating students' comprehensive quality and practical application ability of language skills. Many students won prizes in national English speeches, debates, model United Nations conferences and other activities, and many students were invited to the United States to participate in debate training and American debate competitions.
At present, there are 27 teachers in the English Department, including 3 professors and 9 associate professors. 95% of the teachers have master's degrees, including 2 doctors and 0/3 doctors. More than 50% of the teachers have studied or advanced abroad. The Japanese Department was founded in 1985, when it was a major in the Foreign Languages Department of Xi Jiaotong University. At the beginning of its establishment, it was named "Science and Technology Japanese Major", with the purpose of delivering outstanding talents of science and technology Japanese to the society, and enrolling 1 class every year, with about 18 students. Later, it was renamed "Special Purpose Japanese Major". Starting from 1998, two classes with about 35 students are enrolled from science and engineering candidates every year. Department 65438-0989 began to recruit postgraduates in linguistics and applied linguistics (Japanese).
The Japanese Department has 14 teachers (including 3 professors, 4 associate professors, 3 doctors, 2 doctors, and 4 Japanese teachers; There are also 1 foreign honorary professors (Professor Xiu, President of Nagoya Foreign Studies University) and 1 foreign honorary professors in distinguished professor, who are responsible for the teaching of Japanese majors, graduate students and various public Japanese courses in the whole school.
This department has a Japanese undergraduate major. According to the characteristics of this major, the following courses are mainly offered:
1. Basic Japanese courses: basic Japanese, comprehensive Japanese, advanced Japanese, Japanese listening and speaking training, Japanese translation, Japanese interpretation, Japanese writing, etc.
2. Japanese professional and technical courses: general situation of Japan, Japanese classical grammar, advanced Japanese reading, scientific Japanese, business Japanese, selected reading of Japanese literary works, Japanese culture, Japanese newspaper reading, special lectures, etc.
3. Basic courses of arts and sciences: advanced mathematics, introduction to physics, modern chemistry, computer courses, physical education, modern Chinese, college English, etc.
Japanese major aims to cultivate compound talents with solid Japanese foundation, strong Japanese application ability and good basic knowledge of science and engineering majors to meet the special needs of various departments for Japanese talents. After graduation, students can engage in translation, teaching and research, business, management, international cultural exchange and other fields. Previous graduates have a wide range of employment, and the distribution is in short supply.

Since its establishment, the Japanese Department has held many large-scale academic seminars, and invited professors and scholars from other universities and famous experts in Japanese linguistics, literature and culture to give lectures and hold seminars at Xi Jiaotong University. In recent years, teachers in our department have published a large number of academic papers in academic journals at home and abroad; Many teachers in our department have also undertaken national social science fund projects and provincial and ministerial scientific research projects; The construction of teaching materials has also made remarkable achievements; Many people have won national, provincial, ministerial and school-level scientific research awards. In June, 2005, the Japanese major of our department was rated as "Famous Brand Major of Shaanxi Ordinary Colleges and Universities" by Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, which once again proved the strength of Japanese department in teaching and scientific research.
Japanese major has made great achievements in previous Japanese speech contests for college students in Shaanxi Province, and once won the championship four times in a row. On June 5438- 10, 2006, the Japanese major won the championship again, and the Japanese Department also won the first prize of the group. In the 4th and 5th Sino-Japanese Friendship Thesis Competition for Japanese Majors, our Japanese major won the first prize in pragmatics for two consecutive years, which fully reflected that our Japanese department was in the forefront of similar disciplines in China.

Department of French, School of Foreign Languages, Xi Jiaotong University, an intercultural research institution, was established on June 5438+February 2005 1. Its predecessor was the French major of Russian-German law system in Foreign Languages Institute. In 2006, the French Department became the director of China French Teaching Research Association, and in 2007, it was approved to set up a professional French grade examination point. The development goal of French department is to pay attention to teaching and talent training, and give consideration to scientific research. At present, a teaching system with undergraduate French teaching and French postgraduate training as the core and other French teaching as the supplement has been initially formed:

With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the French Department set up an undergraduate French major in 2006 with a four-year academic system. The courses of undergraduate French major include general courses, subject courses and practical courses. The core courses of subject categories include basic French, advanced French, French audio-visual speaking, French writing, French translation, French interpretation, French literature, French survey, economic and trade French, scientific and technological translation, French newspaper reading and so on.
The French Department pays attention to the cultivation of students' French language application ability, the construction of French teaching environment and practice environment, the advantages of natural science teaching in Xi Jiaotong University, the cultivation of students' basic knowledge and skills in science and technology, and encourages students to minor in the second degree. The French Department is also actively exploring cooperation with France to create opportunities for students to study in France.
(2) Master's degree in French linguistics
The research direction of French linguistics major for master is French-Chinese translation theory and practice, with a two-year academic system and a brand-new research-oriented teaching model. The main courses include French-Chinese translation theory and practice, comparative study of French and Chinese languages, lexicology, French grammar, stylistics, French poetry and novel research, and thesis writing.

Since 2006, the Russian Department has enrolled Russian postgraduates, whose research direction is translation theory and practice. This major trains senior Russian talents with solid language foundation, skilled language skills and independent working ability, who can be competent in foreign trade, foreign affairs, tourism, news, publishing, teaching and scientific research.
