Shapotou integrates desert, Yellow River, mountain and oasis, with magnificent northwest and beautiful south of the Yangtze River. There is the largest natural sliding sand field in China, the "first rope of the Yellow River in the world" across the Yellow River, the ancient waterwheel and sheepskin raft represented by the Yellow River culture, the oldest means of transportation on the Yellow River, and a rare mirage in the desert. You can ride a camel through the Tengger Desert, surf in the sand sea by off-road vehicle, and enjoy the wonders of desert solitary smoke and long river sunset at close range.
The value of Shapotou
The climate of the reserve is unique, and the landforms and soil types are diverse and complex. The Yellow River flows from the edge of the reserve, where Shapotou Water Control Project, which integrates irrigation and power generation, has been built. Complex physical and geographical conditions provide different habitats for the formation and development of various biological and ecological types.
The "five-belt-integrated" sand-fixing shelterbelt project, which is mainly composed of wheat straw checkered psammophytes, has protected the smoothness of baotou-lanzhou railway and Yinlan highways, successfully resisted the southward invasion of Tengger Desert, and formed a virtuous circle ecological environment community in the northwest desert. At the same time, the "Three North" shelterbelt project system in the area is like a green ecological barrier, which protects the ecological security of the railway transportation hub in Bao Zhong and the industrial and agricultural production base in western zhongwei from sandstorms.
