Village Night is a seven-character quatrain written by Lei Zhen, a poet in the Southern Song Dynasty. This is a poem describing the night scene of the countryside: it vividly depicts a pond surrounded by grass, a red sun that seems to have been bitten by a mountain, and a child sitting on the back of a cow, playing a tune out of tune casually with a piccolo.
The pond is covered with green grass, and the water in the pond almost overflows the bank. Castle peak in the distance, with scarlet sunset glow in its mouth, reflects the shadow in the water together, shining with waves. The little shepherd boy rode on the back of the cow and walked home; Holding a piccolo, playing casually, without a fixed voice.
