Alashan has a long history. As early as the Paleolithic, there were human activities here. Huo Qubing, a famous Western Han Dynasty star, entered Juyan to recover Hexi. In the Yuan Dynasty, there was also the General Affairs Office of Jinaidao. In the Qing Dynasty, there were two special flags, Alashan and Shuote Banner and Ejina Old Turhut Banner. 1949 peaceful liberation of Alashan Heshuote Banner and Ejina Banner. Alxa League was founded in May 1980.
In Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region 12 cities, Alashan League has the largest area and the least population. Alashan League is a frontier minority area with Mongolian as the main body and Han as the majority, with 28 nationalities including Mongolia, Han, Hui and Man. The League governs 3 banners and 4 autonomous region-level development zones, and its administrative office is located in Bayanhaote Town, Zuo Qi, Alashan.
Alashan enjoys the reputation of the city of ornamental stones in China, the hometown of camels in China and the hometown of Cistanche deserticola in China. It is also the permanent venue of Alashan Heroes Club, which is the largest cross-country car race in the world.
