The author is Wang Ji, a poet in the late Sui and early Tang Dynasties.
Wang Ji (approximately 589-644), courtesy name Wugong and nickname Donggaozi, was born in Longmen County, Jiangzhou (Tonghua Town, Wanrong County, Shanxi Province, Tonghua Town was transferred from Hejin County to Wanrong County in 1972). Poet of the early Tang Dynasty. At the end of the Sui Dynasty, filial piety and honesty were promoted, except for secretary Zhengzi. Unhappy at court, he resigned and was granted the title of Liuhe Cheng of Yangzhou. At that time, the world was in chaos, so he abandoned his official position and returned to his hometown.
Main achievements
Although Wang Ji had a wide range of hobbies, his most outstanding achievement was poetry. His landscape and pastoral poems are simple and natural, with rich artistic conception. "With their sincere and simple style, they entered the homes of many families in the early Tang Dynasty, like kites and phoenixes flying in groups, and suddenly encountering wild deer, which is rare."
Wang Ji is recognized by later generations as the founder of five-character verse. He reversed the trend of Qi and Liang Dynasties and made important contributions to the creation of Tang poetry. He also plays a very important role in the history of Chinese poetry.

Creative background
After Wang Ji entered the Tang Dynasty, he served as secretary of the province and waited for the imperial edict to go to the province. Soon he resigned and returned to his hometown. In Zhenguan, he came out as Tai Lecheng and returned home. This poem was written when the poet resigned and lived in seclusion in Donggao (in today's Hejin, Shanxi).
Appreciation of Ambition’s Works
This poem is about the autumn scenery of the mountains and fields. The whole poem reveals the loneliness and depression in the description of the bleak and quiet scenery, and expresses the feelings of melancholy and loneliness. "Looking at the dusk in Donggao, where can I rely on when I move?" Gao is a place by the water. Donggao refers to a place in Longmen, Jiangzhou, his hometown. After he retired to seclusion, he often traveled to Beishan and Donggao, calling himself "Donggaozi". "Yiyi" means wandering.
The following four sentences describe the scenery seen in the dusk: "The trees are all in autumn colors, and the mountains are only covered with sunset. The herdsmen drive their calves back, and the hunting horses and birds return." Looking around, there is autumn color everywhere. It looked increasingly bleak in the afterglow of the setting sun.
Above this quiet background, the close-up of the shepherd and the hunting horse brings a pastoral pastoral atmosphere to the whole picture. These four poems are like an autumn evening picture of a mountain home, with light and color, distant view and close-up view, static and dynamic, all perfectly matched.
However, Wang Ji could not find solace in the countryside like Tao Yuanming, so he finally said: "We care about each other without knowing each other, and we sing and cherish the flowers for a long time." He said that he was lonely and helpless in reality, so he had no choice but to reminisce about ancient times. The hermit made friends with people like Boyi and Shuqi.
