Appreciation of Xu Zhimo's Farewell to Cambridge

This poem is like Chopin's serenade. There are four lines and one section, and the arrangement of each section is patchy. The number of words in each sentence is basically six or seven words (there are eight words in the middle), which is neat in the uneven changes; Each verse rhymes, changing rhymes one by one, and pursuing syllable fluctuation and melody sense. In addition, the repeated use of reduplicated words such as "light" and "quiet" enhances the light rhythm of poetry. The end of the poem is similar to the first sentence, echoing from afar, giving people a fantastic feeling.

Almost every section of seven poems contains a picture that can be drawn. Poets use colorful words to bring people the enjoyment of visual beauty, such as the clouds waving goodbye gently in the western sky, the reflection of golden willows on the banks of Hekang River, the swaying aquatic plants at the bottom of He Kang River, and the green pool covered with floating algae under elms. Moreover, through the words with strong actions such as "waving", "rippling", "swaying", "rolling", "wandering back" and "waving", every picture has become a dynamic picture, giving people a three-dimensional sense.

The poet Wen Yiduo advocated the beauty of music, painting and architecture in modern poetry in the 1920s. Farewell to Cambridge can be said to have three beauties, which can be called the swan song in Xu Zhimo's poems.
