Zhang Zao’s profile

Zhang Zao, 1962-2010, was born in Changsha, Hunan. A famous contemporary poet and one of the representatives of Chinese avant-garde poetry. I graduated from the English Department of Hunan Normal University with a bachelor's degree and was admitted to Sichuan International Studies University to study for a master's degree. He went abroad in 1986 and lived in Germany all year round. He received a doctorate in literature and philosophy from the University of Trier in Germany, and later taught at the University of Tübingen. After returning to China, he taught at the School of Literature of Henan University and the School of Literature and Journalism of the Minzu University of China. Poetry collections published in China include "Letters from the Spring and Autumn Period" and "Zhang Zao's Poems", and his representative works include "In the Mirror", "Who's Si", etc. He died of lung cancer at the University Hospital of Tübingen, Germany at 4:39 a.m. on March 8, 2010 at the age of 48. In April 2012, "Selected Essays of Zhang Zao" was published by People's Literature Publishing House.
