"Fragment of Chapter"------Bian Zhilin
You stand on the bridge and look at the scenery,
The people watching the scenery are watching you upstairs.
The bright moon decorates your windows,
You decorate other people’s dreams.
"Fragmented Chapter" is a representative work of the "Crescent School" poet Bian Zhilin, written in October 1935. The language of the work is concise and implicit. According to the author, the poem was originally in a long poem, but he was satisfied with only these four lines in the poem, so he extracted it and made it into an independent chapter, hence the title. This poem is one of the most widely read works in the history of Chinese poetry in the 20th century.
The second half of the chapter
The mud from across the river is picked up on your beam,
The spring across the courtyard is picked up into your cup.
Luxury goods from overseas come to your chest,
I want to study the history of transportation.
Last night there was a lot of sighing,
Today there are two smiles.
Given a mirror flower,
collecting a water moon,
I will keep a running account for you.
Attached is a poem imitated by later generations.
You stand on the bridge and look at the scenery,
The people watching the scenery are watching you upstairs.
The bright moon decorates your windows,
You decorate other people’s dreams.
Happy people praise others for their happiness,
Happy people try to feel happy.
Happiness describes others,
Happiness belongs to oneself.
