Message to Meng Haoran

Lipper

Master, I cheer you from the bottom of my heart. Your fame has risen to the sky.

In the rosy youth, you gave up the importance of hats and chariots and chose pine trees and clouds; Now whitehead.

Drunk moon, sage of dreams, bewitched by flowers, you turned a deaf ear to the emperor.

Gaoshan, how I long to reach you, that's all.

This poem was written roughly in the period when Li Bai lived in Anlu, Hubei (727-736). At this time, he often traveled to Han Xiang and forged a deep friendship with Meng Haoran, who was twelve years older than him. The style of the poem is natural and elegant, which depicts Meng Haoran's romantic and elegant image and expresses Li Bai's thoughts and feelings for him.

The first couplet is the key point, which comes straight to the point and expresses the admiration and love for Meng Haoran. A word "love" is a lyric clue throughout the poem. "Romantic" refers to nobility, naturalness, elegance, distinctive demeanor and extraordinary literary talent. This couplet sums up the whole poem. How romantic it is depends on the pen and ink of the middle couplet.

Zhong Erlian is like a master's hidden painting, which outlines an image of a poet who enjoys himself. "Beauty" and "Whitehead" summarize the life from youth to old age. On the one hand, it is the crown of horses and chariots of dignitaries, on the other hand, it is the relaxation of the hermit's breeze and white clouds. Haoran would rather abandon his official position and take refuge. Through this contrast, he highlighted his noble morality and integrity. The word "lie" is written in the sentence of "white head", which vividly depicts the lofty spirit of the characters and their feelings for mountains and rivers. If Zhuan Xu writes about Haoran's life vertically, then Jing Lian writes about his seclusion horizontally. On a clear night when the moon is clear, he drinks in the breeze, often intoxicated, and sometimes wanders among flowers. Parallel couplets are from right to wrong, that is, from abandoning to taking, while necklaces are from right to wrong, from seclusion to not being king. Vertical and horizontal positive and negative, flexible pen posture.

Couplets contain love in the description of images, and the couplets return to direct lyricism, and the feelings are further sublimated. Haoran is not greedy for glory, and his indifference to himself is written so fully. On this basis, it is very natural to deepen and enrich the lyrics and push them to a climax. Looking up at the image of the mountain makes the admiration concrete, but the mountain is too lofty and has a sigh of "comfort". Here we can only pay tribute to his pure and fragrant character. This kind of writing has become a higher level than ordinary writing, and it is a higher sense of admiration. The poem ends with such praise.
