During Dami's absence from school, Hou wanted to learn from China's Tao Yuanming. Professor Hou's Life and Thoughts of Ji Kang is the first monograph by French sinologists on ancient China poets (1980, he translated all Ji Kang's poems into French and commented them one by one, and published them in the 268th volume of Asia News). The remarkable feature of this book is that it puts writers and works in their time, accurately grasps the true meaning of the works, and depicts the image of Ji Kang, a poet who advocates Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. In his other book Poetry and Politics: Ruan Ji's Life and Works, he continued to explore the spiritual background and life originality of 82 poems in Yong Huai by this method of "knowing people and discussing the world".

Hou is a French authority on the study of the Six Dynasties in China, and he is very proficient in materials. His two papers, Poems of the Gods: Popular Religious Poems of China in the Fifth Century and Cao Zhi's Immortal Thought, are very impressive. The author believes that Cao Zhi's poems about immortals accepted the fable tradition of Chu Ci and explored a real and meaningful development process in thought. He believes that in these poems, Cao Zhi can get rid of the setbacks in his daily life: "He must regard those setbacks as the complete failure of all his ambitions.
