The poem "Children come back early from school" describes the children in the village who rush home as soon as school is over.
This poem comes from "Village Residence" by Gao Ding, an outstanding poet in the Qing Dynasty of my country. "Village Residence" is a seven-character quatrain composed by Gao Ding when he retired to Shangrao area in his later years and lived idle in the countryside. It refers to the beautiful spring scenery in the countryside in early spring. "Children return early from school" is the third couplet of this ancient poem.
The next couplet of "Children come back early from school" is "Busy taking advantage of the east wind to fly kites". The meaning of these two poems together is: the children in the village hurried home as soon as they got to school, and took advantage of the east wind to fly the kites. These last two sentences arouse the atmosphere of the entire poem by describing the scene of village children busy flying paper kites, making the poem permeated with a very lively and vivid atmosphere.
Appreciation of the whole poem:
This little poem describing the spring scenery was written by the poet when he was leisurely living in the countryside. Since the spring scenery is so moving, the people living in this picturesque spring scenery are even more so. The last two sentences of the poem, from the scenery to the people, the poet lovingly wrote a scene of a group of children flying kites. The weather was so good that even the primary school students, who usually loved to play outside, went home early after school and quickly flew kites. The word "morning" is used in "returning from school", indicating that even the children were moved by the beautiful and sunny weather.
The first half of the poem describes the scenery, and the second half describes the people. The first half is basically static, and the second half adds a dynamic. The objects and people set off each other, and the dynamic and static complement each other, making the whole poem perfectly and harmoniously unified under the theme of the "spring" scene seen in the village.
