Wang Changling is a famous poet.
Wang Changling, courtesy name Shaobo, is of Han nationality. He was born in the Tang Dynasty. His native place is Jinyang, Hedong (now Taiyuan, Shanxi) and Chang'an, Jingzhao, Tang Dynasty (now Xi'an, Shaanxi). He was a famous frontier poet in the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Because of his exquisite skills in Qi Jue poems, he was revered as the "Sage of Qi Jue" by later generations.
Wang Changling’s life was quite rough. He lived in poverty in his early years and relied mainly on farming. In the fifteenth year of Kaiyuan (727 AD), Wang Changling passed the Jinshi examination when he was about 40 years old and began his official career. At first, he served as secretary and provincial secretary. Later, he graduated from the Boxue Hongci Department and was awarded the official position of Sishui County Lieutenant. But due to certain things, he was demoted to the Lingnan area.
In the last years of Kaiyuan, Wang Changling returned to Chang'an and was appointed Jiang Ningcheng. However, he was relegated to Longbiao County Wei because of being slandered. After the Anshi Rebellion broke out, he passed through Bozhou on his way back to his hometown and was unfortunately killed by the governor Lu Qiu Xiao.
