/
Foreword (only the last page of this chapter is more important)
1. Comic spirit conceives some characters in a certain situation and focuses on describing them and their remarks, without considering any additional characters. As a spirit, it tracks and searches people's inner world, and its advantages are intuition and enthusiasm.
2. Endoscopy is the spirit of generalization and concentration, which is very necessary for us to digest and understand the endless milestone facts in essence according to specific examples.
3. The spread and noise of egoism [makes our time] produce the same ills ... it's like sewage flowing from a swamp that can never be drained ... Science introduced our distant ancestors to us in an oriental way (referring to apes). So we started a chat about root-seeking, which was comparable to the rustling of virgin forests in the Amazon basin near dusk. It made us think we were cured. But before dawn, our disease returned to us, and another tail swung in front of us. We are still seriously ill and have become apes. This is everything we get from science.
Art is a cure for egoism. We can't learn anything from apes, so we can ignore them. ...... ["egoism"] This masterpiece has a tendency to be cumbersome and cumbersome everywhere. This tendency blurs people's magnifying glass, making it impossible for us to accurately distinguish people's diverse faces, which is very dangerous to human civilization. Comedy is a real pastime and the key to this masterpiece. ...
5 ..... Being too hasty is a sign of insatiable greed.
6. Terrible monotony embraced us with the arm of Houxing. We even heard the voice of fighting for entertainment.
7. Comedy is an important means for us to read quickly and fully understand what we have read. It proposes to correct posturing, grandiose complacency, dullness and ignorance, and the remnants of rudeness and barbarism that appear on us. ..... Even in comedy, the whipping of birch sticks will cause sadness, but we have to admit that it is not against love. As long as you are honest, you can love and love passionately. But don't go against reason. If the lover is influenced too much and behaves abnormally, his feet will fall into the trap of comedy as long as he goes one step beyond the normal state. In comedy, expressing contempt with hearty laughter is a unique way to express goodwill ... this kind of laughter inspired by reason will lead to prosperity and bloom, just as the wonderful wind will bring summer in the ever-changing spring. You can hear how it gives freedom to subtle emotions.
8. Without pity, no ship can set sail. ..... A ship loaded with pity seems to sail the most smoothly-a smooth sailing needs pity.
9. [For literary angels,] Simplicity is the greatest compliment.
10. "He committed suicide because he loved himself too much." If this line of poetry does not appear in our literary works, let it become the epitaph of egoists!
/
The first chapter (a little thing reflects the ancestral ability to use a knife)
1. The first principle of generosity: blood is thicker than water.
/
Chapter 2 (Young Sir Willoughby)
How unnecessary it is to praise the obvious!
Where language is better than money, society is highly refined. ...
4. Blind obedience can't win the public, nor can it win the favor of women.
Our nation lost its leg in order to reach a relatively pure moral standard. It is doubtful whether the moral standards are pure, but it is true that you lost a leg.
The old man Fahua patted the naughty urchin's head with curly hair and praised him habitually. The urchin immediately appeared mature for several years.
/
Chapter III (Konya Darren)
People struggling in poverty should be shown that even the darling of fate will be attacked by throwing stones and bows and arrows. Only in this way can we satisfy those unfortunate people. ...
8. To start thinking is to start hating the world.
9. As long as it is to maintain women's universal reverence for the ideal youth, women should be burned to death from time to time.
/
The fourth chapter (Lydia Dell)
10. Those women who wait patiently for hunger must have got some nutrition by themselves, because as you have noticed, they are still alive. We can think that they are the kind of animals with weak fire and can provide heat for themselves. They seldom sigh, so they can't have strong vitality.
1 1. As long as [two things] are compared, it is always [funny], as long as [two characters] are compared, it is always [weird].
12. The green in rural England is invincible.
The dead have endurance. Endurance for a long time will also make people have some similarities with the dead.
14. London is a graveyard for burying people's personality.
15. When the color of truth covers our bright ideal planet, there is a strange solar eclipse. It seems that it is not the fault of the planet, but the fault of the truth. Reality is a criminal, and illusion is a treasure that we have been robbed of. Then, the stage of our persistent fantasy begins, which is bound to be accompanied by an aversion to reality. It is more difficult to exhaust one's heart than to endure hunger patiently.
16. No young people will be abandoned. He was only allowed to go out.
17. "What I have, he saw in her." This idea (that is, the idea that "she won someone I admire with some of my advantages") made her proud, just like someone put a wreath on her tombstone.
18. ascetic fanatics stubbornly cling to [their accustomed] horsehair shirts and whip, and regard them as the most painful and sacred things assigned to them by God. ...
19. People living in the wilderness are confused; In the world where idols exist, people have definite idols. If idols come to them and put their loyal temperament into the melting pot, then a clear mind will be extracted from the burning heart.
20. A woman's heart can be a grave, a perfect grave. You can lie there and die like a ghost. Even if he is not dead, he may [only] lie cold in the corner, which is daunting. Even with antiseptic sesame oil, few people will come to visit you. Besides, how can the world know that you are wearing sesame oil? ……
2 1. The ideal friendship is [completely] possible [exists]-as long as we can find two people who can selflessly respect each other. ..... Life is a responsibility ... Friendship is a holiday for those who can become friends. Many wives, few friends.
22. Only by being a person and not wanting to be another person can you sleep more stably.
23. When our eyes are blurred, we begin to see the world. ...
24. Will wealth, health and beauty attract each other?
/
Chapter 5 (Clara Milton)
Being chosen by a beautiful woman is a great appreciation of nature.
26. Being superior is magnetic to beauty. She may be looking away, but you will see that superiority is very attractive and she will be attracted. She can't control herself, it's her nature. It is her nature that the noblest man will come to her for assurance. As your supplement, she will ensure that you get excellent children.
Parents mainly like rich dowry, abundant financial resources, vast land and respect for them?
Like women, men identify the strongest in their own way. ...
29. [For a girl who hasn't thought about love,] love is like a distant blessing in the universe. It is located somewhere in the jungle of the world, on the other side of the rough sea, veiled, surrounded by attractive dangers, and has the secrets of today's trembling. ...
30. Love can make the world colorful.
3 1. People's rotten hearing needs sound impact.
32. Who can remember the boring part of the conversation?
33. It is an extremely precious secret to respect a woman with brains without belittling herself. By not losing their individuality, lovers can double a man's personal dignity.
34. For a girl's personality, giving her a face-to-face interview and looking at her manner can tell you much more than you can get by diving into the water.
35. The habit of "diving" in [marriage] will bring such a danger: where we originally planned to find something but actually found nothing, we will start to sow and cultivate this discovery ourselves.
/
Chapter VI (Willoughby's Love)
Lovers must hate the world. ..... Unless they are isolated from the world, they can't enjoy the security of love. ……
37. If our nature can no longer run freely, it will easily find "illogical things".
Ignorance is a kind of happiness.
39. Anything is possible. Women are women. They swim in treachery, from one wave to another!
40. Men are all animals [very fond of profaning beautiful women]. [About Beauty] Even the slightest sign of infidelity will make them excited and ecstatic.
4 1. Women [usually] think that their husbands' graves break the bonds and set them free. They are combined with the body.
42. Being different is a desirable goal. This is especially true [for women].
43. Men who have high expectations for women are bound to be cheated.
44. The language in which human beings express their primitive feelings has the same expression at all times. Modern gentlemen talk to women, but [yes] they get rid of their original colors [just].
Hotel life is to cram a terrible cannon with a large group of people every night and fire it every morning. ...
46. In order to buy something, you have to pay. ..... Your husband didn't give it to you for nothing.
47. Women are capricious, and capriciousness is undoubtedly the enemy of literati.
/
Chapter VII (Employees)
48. Some people have limited income and have to live on their laurels. Faced with the unbearable prospect of famine in their [their] families, if they can get comfort from the pleasure of reckless consumption once or twice, then they will soon lose the distress caused by foresight and spend money on a comfortable carnival for a while. When income is limited, lovers make a living from their capital in a similar way. In order to suppress their fears and beautify the present time, they also squandered their stocks quickly enough to dilute their fears. In the face of the coming famine, they intoxicated themselves. They forced their memories into the past happiness and love, walked into the old house and looted the food stored in the house. ..... In this respect, lovers do show an easy death. They need fresh supplies and really nutritious juice more than the poor.
49. A budding life is like a fruit hanging on a tree, not a processed can. When there are countless things to eat and people are full of wine and rice, canned food can be left for later. If lovers' minds are full of their first impressions and are well preserved with responsible and rational love, then they may [just] get rich harvest, just as they did at the beginning of their love. But this situation is rare. In other words, love is a matter for two people. Only two people can work together to break through the clouds or exchange energy directly, quickly and often, just like the sun and the earth. Their lives breathe the expression of their mutual love, the proof of loyalty and the encouragement of respect. ……
50. People are always suffering. Suffering is everything around us.
5 1. For the captured woman, everyone unequivocally hopes that she will obey absolutely. ...
52. If only we could use a spell to make others never see us again!
It's no good for a woman to be frightened by a man's suddenly exposed personality.
54. The world is wrong. The glacier has cracks. There are faults in the mountains. However, does this affect their overall lofty image?
If we don't love the world, we weaken ourselves. If I don't love this world, I will be blinded by fog, and I will not hear music, but only the eternal rumble.
56. Cynicism is the characteristic of a dude ... Cynics regard the world as a barren land, and their only pleasure is to make others regard the world as a barren land.
57. "... isn't love just running away from the world? Two people who love each other must get nutrition in isolation. ""no, they will eat themselves. " "The purer the beauty, the farther away from the world." "But not against the world."
58. "... language is not suitable for expressing feelings. Passion is against. ""... if you have read some poems, you won't think that human language can't ... "
/
Chapter 8 (Running with Truant and Walking with Teacher)
59. Boys don't listen to women when doing manly exercises.
60. What a pleasure it is to deal with someone who can frankly admit his bad temper and [can] boldly correct it with masculinity!
6 1. "My heart is mine, whether I am married or not."
/
Chapter 9 (The Meeting between Clara and Letitia: Comparing them)
62. Talent is more precious than beauty.
63. Boys with personality often grow into strong men. The stronger a person is, the more he agrees with Busby. ..... The authority of whipping is more valuable than the authority of management. According to the translator's note, Busby refers to Dr. Richard Busby, the headmaster of Westminster School in England in the17th century. He is notorious for whipping students.
64. Those who had no Busby education in their early years were all unbalanced people. Their knowledge base is also not solid. When adversity and prosperity come, they can't stand it. They have some bad styles and don't forgive people. ..... If there is any breeze that doesn't cater to their likes and dislikes, they will lose their temper with excitement. ..... We British can beat the world because we can push ourselves well.
Sailors may need whipping to maintain discipline. ..... but [education] [flogging] doesn't work on gentlemen.
66. "My jealousy made me recognize you ..."
I love him very much, so I will consider his hobbies instead of my selfish psychology. ..... I won't forget to do my best. "
68. Being smart at home is pleasant.
69. If you can become a monarch, feudalism will not be a trouble.
/
Chapter 10 (Sir Willoughby inadvertently awarded himself a title)
70. It is hard to say why pedantry is superior to wealth and title. It is the spice of life. Delicious spices endow food with soul and luxury. If eaten separately, the seasoning will make people vomit and the food will make people feel tacky. Therefore, it is best-or to some extent-to have a poet or even better, a scholar as a vassal of the family.
7 1. For most faithful women, marriage has a well-known effect, that is, when they marry a man, their great passion will vanish in their changeable hearts.
72. Influence is power.
73. Our nature is mysterious.
74. We can't expect too much from women. They don't have too many bad habits or heroic virtues. They don't have to reveal their personalities to us like an open scroll.
75. "As long as there is a small crack (in our relationship), the world will come with its muddy flood." (Youth Note: "We" refers to an isolated couple. )
76. Cowardice is a stronger shackle than engagement.
77. Our world must be a shoddy and crumbling world, which provides an ignorant moment for the creator to force us to make decisive choices related to the value of life.
78. How disrespectful a man who completely exposes himself in front of a woman is!
79. "... the French are used to making up for everything they lack with enthusiasm. They don't know how to be afraid. If I say to Dehos,' Dehos, make me something delicious.' Then, I will have a very ordinary dinner. But they are enthusiastic, which is exactly what we must make full use of. ... the French destroyed their aristocratic class ... They don't know how to respect ... Human nature is always on display, and no matter how much we suppress it, it won't help. The only difference between the French and us (the British) is that they (always) discover through the baptism of blood that they are playing the same old tune again. "(Note of Qing Dynasty: De Hoss is an unknown character in the novel, whose full name is almond de Hoss, and where the story takes place, he is a French chef with excellent cooking skills. )
80. [What are the characteristics of a typical egoist? There is a story that the faithful wife of a frail gentleman was seriously ill. He went to consult the doctors gathered outside the ward, crying and begging them to save the poor patient for him with all their property. The lovely husband rubbed his hands in despair and said, "She is everything to me, everything. If she dies, I'll have to risk remarriage. I must get married again. Because she made me accustomed to my wife's meticulous care. I really can't, can't lose her! She must be saved! " "... this [weak gentleman] is ... an out-and-out egoist. You see where he has developed ... "
/
Chapter 11 (Wild Cherry Tree in Bloom)
8 1. When a person keeps moving and can't settle down, he will feel that his house is collapsing.
82. As long as the British are willing to live in a patriarchal way, they will have all the excellent qualities of the Jews.
83. "The so-called gentleman is our nation's indulgence of laziness. Cultivating a penniless child into that kind of person is almost as bad as educating him in a thief's den. Even if he doesn't become the target of the police, he will become the enemy of society. "
84. People with a college degree are at least preferred.
85. Maybe only nuns and hermits will blame themselves for a long time, because they have plenty of time.
86.[ Face] People must be armed with those rough beasts.
87. Young people should take revenge on sameness … because sameness is harmful to their health.
88. [For a beautiful girl,] thinking that she is worthless is a guarantee of an invaluable future.
89. Love season is the carnival of egoists, and the passion of love is the touchstone of our nature. ..... Just as we are doomed to die, the flame of passion has both life and death. It may burn for a long time, or it may go out soon.
90. Those women who are open-minded and strong in spirit will eventually find that it is an unparalleled barbarism to ask them to have infinite purity and flawless youth and beauty. Sooner or later, they will find themselves victims of eccentric egoism. ..... In order to satisfy the greedy possessiveness of egoists full of jealousy, they endure the pain of being dragged back to the wild times and let them enjoy the pleasure of the senses. ……
9 1. Farmers can't marry young ladies. There is hope for cavalry officers.
92. "People who like to sleep under such a tree must be good people!"
93. There are always some unpleasant things in girls' minds that will ruin the game.
/
Chapter 12 (Miss Milton and Mr. Vernon whitford)
94. Men or girls who sleep in the open air will arouse people's cautious curiosity.
95. Walking is a specific medicine to dispel mental smog (it can get rid of boring thoughts).
96. High mountains will soon subdue people's romantic views on them.
97. The secret of doing a good job is to make steady progress and keep full of enthusiasm.
98. For the poor who have suffered from long-term emotional torture, it is [will] be happy to observe themselves from the outside.
99. Doing something wrong at first is often inevitable.
100. [Facing a young woman who made a mistake and corrected it] We sympathize with the torrent of feelings and our nature.
10 1. "Young women are a mystery to me. I think they must have a natural feeling for the right husband. ..... If they have some courage, then the result is that they have to satisfy their feelings. "
102. In some cases, it is correct to judge according to the effect.
/
Chapter 13 (First Pursuit of Freedom)
103. [In a boy's upbringing,] it is much better to be weak and rude than to spoil him.
104. Freedom is just outside the towering prison walls.
105. Young people's temper is like a flowing fire on a quicksand island, like a precious metal that has not been completely cooled on hard land after forging.
106. When young people are in trouble, they can give hypocritical lessons to talented people without consulting talented hypocrites who understand science. ...
107. City life is not life. People who live in cities are atoms swept away by storms.
108. Men will naturally feel discouraged when they see that the woman they are pursuing worships others.
109. A girl with little experience often overestimates her fiance's friends.
1 10. No one can explain what love is. ..... we should love the people we should love.
1 1 1. "... are you cold, dear? You're shaking. ""I'm not cold, I just feel someone walking on my grave. "
1 12. For women, even if they have realized that an illusion is groundless, they may still stick to their own opinions.
/
Chapter 14 (Sir Willoughby and Leticia)
1 13. It is great happiness to possess a kind of possession without obligation (this is the rarest possession).
1 14. Gold and silver, jewelry, handicrafts and enviable furniture are undeniable shackles. And if we have a wife, we will feel that our obligations are very heavy. In all these cases, possession is a euphemism, and its real meaning is slavery. The happiness it gives you is the happiness when slaves are drunk. You can be happy and possessed, but you can't have a free soul.
It is perfect to have such a possession. It keeps our freedom. It doesn't let us undertake any obligations at all. It always takes and never gives. Or even if we give it, we just give the waste products we produce ... just like perspiration and heat radiation: it is an unconscious sweat hole generosity, which is also a beneficial process for our bodies. -Our reverence for women who worship us [our feelings] is this kind of possession.
1 16. Weak [men] will be proud and nervous because of women's worship ...
1 17. Even if [yes] what we are willing to give up, it is painful to give it to others (this idea is too subtle, they may belong to the core of egoism).
1 18. No one can tell how quickly a woman who worships you will lose her loyal soul in her husband's arms.
1 19. It's worse than raising tax rates and taxes. Maybe it's distributing porridge outside the government gate, logging in the bushes outside, or buying a few cars of coal.
120. "Since we started foreign trade, our island country's immunity from external influences no longer exists."
12 1. Our souls have fearfully succumbed to the conditions limited by our animal nature.
122. For people with high status, when they are asked to give up possession instead of pursuing possession, any sign of change seems to be a complete change. In other words, [they tend to] have everything or nothing.
123. [For a woman's pure and enthusiastic guardian,] It is unbearable to see a woman's purity being dedicated to others.
124. A man will never change his old friends after marriage.
125. The average woman's ability to suppress her personality after marriage seems particularly prominent.
We are habitual creatures.
127. A virtuous woman may be a wife and mother, but she can still save a place for her friends. They are able and willing to overcome the despicable situation in human life.
128. Extreme intimacy will kill poetic praise. ...
129. We are mortals, and we have to go through a painful test [emotionally]. Only through hard work can we achieve harmony in heaven.
/
Chapter 15 (request for pardon)
130. Young women or younger women worship any form of power (including the right to learn).
13 1. Historians who are infatuated with guilty beauties [often] will only [will] mention the minor faults of these beauties lightly.

133. Women's cleverness will remind them to say appropriate words.
134. "... loyal to the engagement, loyal to the marriage agreement of two lovers, this is a religion. ……"
135. Married couples who are no longer lovers are puzzling people.

140. Women who struggle with shackles can develop their clever instinct that is almost evil and lawless.
14 1.[ We] can make an evaluation of human beings: wherever they go, they [will] make a mess.
