After Qu Yuan threw himself into the river, in order to prevent fish and shrimp in the river from eating Qu Yuan's body and to commemorate Qu Yuan, on the Dragon Boat Festival, the people of the State of Chu wrapped glutinous rice in bamboo leaves and threw it into the river for fish to eat.
Qu Yuan was a great patriotic poet in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty and the Warring States Period. He was born in Danyang, Chu, whose real name is Ping, so he is usually called Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan is the founder and representative writer of Chu Ci. He initiated the tradition of vanilla beauty and is known as the ancestor of Chu Ci. The appearance of his works marks that China's poetry has entered a new era from elegant singing to romantic originality.
